One of the biggest strengths ofBaldur’s Gate 3is undoubtedly the game’s cast of characters, all wonderfully crafted to help guide you on your adventures on the Sword Coast. Through companions and various NPCs, the story unfolds, and it is because of their depth that you are able to become fully immersed in the amazing fantasy setting of Faerûn. Among this cast of brilliant characters are a few that I’d love to see again in future installments of the franchise to learn more about them after the events ofBG3.
Whenever continuing a series or telling a story over multiple games, there will always be recurring characters to help guide you into the new chapter. While there are somepopularBG3that shouldn’t return, there are plenty who would benefit from having their story expanded on. Whetherthey didn’t get the chance to shine inBG3or were so interesting that they left us wanting more, here are some characters that need to appear inBaldur’s Gate 4.

10Hope - So Much Left To Explore
Hope’s Backstory Was Barely Touched On In BG3
Hope is a fascinating character that can be met towards the end ofBaldur’s Gate 3when the party ventures into Raphael’s House of Hope. Hope is the sister of Korilla, who will pop up repeatedly throughout all three acts and often speaks on behalf of her master, butshe gets nowhere near enough attention considering her fantastic backstory. Once she is met, you’re able to learn that Hope has been imprisoned and tortured by Raphael for years as he attempted to break her and force her to serve him.
If Hope were to reappear inBG4, it would be a wonderful way to learn what she’s been doing since being freed by the party. It would be the perfect way to find out if she and Korilla have reconciledand if her mental health has improved. Although Hope would be great as a quest-relevant NPC, I personally think she’d be best used as a companion and the party’s cleric.
9Mol - Future Crime Boss
Whether Friend Or Foe, Mol’s Ambition Should Be Admired
Mol is the cheeky and surprisingly pragmatic leader of the tiefling children that you’re able to encounter in Act 1’s Druid Grove. Never afraid to speak her mind, even to adults, Mol has aspirations of being a crime boss and will even strike a deal with Raphael to get her foot in the door of the Guild.I love her ambition and how she looks out for the other tiefling children, many of whom are now orphans with no one to take care of them.
Mol’s contract can be found in the House of Hope in a room locked with an Infernal Gem. A DC 10 Wisdom check or a DC 20 Arcana check is needed to use the gem and open the room.
Meeting Mol again inBG4would be brilliant, and I’d be looking forward to seeing if she’s head of the Guild as Raphael promised.Having Mol act in the same capacity as Nine-Fingers would be perfect, and it would be fun to learn about her rise to power. Considering how ambitious she is, Mol would no doubt have some enemies by this point, something she might need the party’s assistance with.
8Barcus Wroot - Deserves More Time In The Spotlight
Barcus Could Offer A Glimpse Into The New Ironhand Clan
I adore Barcus Wroot and have only ever brought myself to kill him once during a Dark Urge playthrough. The anxious but heartbreakingly loyal Deep Gnome can be found in Act 1 tied to a windmillwhile on his own personal quest to rescue his friend Wulbren. Unfortunately, Wulbren does not appreciate Barcus' efforts, often speaking down to him and eventually prompting the soft-spoken Barcus to go against his clan’s leader.
If Barcus is the leader of the Ironhand Clan, it would be great to see how he’s settled into the role and what that means for the group.I think Barcus would make a fantastic companionand, as an artificer, could introduce gadgets and explosive crafting toBG4’s mechanics. It would be interesting to see if Barcus has gained any confidence or if he eventually got over his one-sided love for Wulbren.
7Aylin & Isobel - The Ultimate Power Couple
They Are Both Resplendent
As a character that is mentioned so frequently as part of the plot forBG3, it’s a shame that you don’t get to spend more time in the game with Dame Aylin, better known as the Nightsong. As the demigod daughter of Selune,Aylin is equal parts awesome and fascinating, and someone I’d love to learn more about after the Absolute is defeated. Of course, it would be wrong to have Aylin appear inBG4with her love Isobel, who herself has an intriguing backstory that is never fully explored inBG3.
I remember playing through thefight between Aylin and Lorroakanand watching her façade crack just a little after the scheming wizard is defeated.Aylin was clearly weary after everything she’s endured, and I’d love to see the continuation of that and have it explored in future installments. Obviously, Aylin would be far too powerful to have as a companion, but she and Isobel would work very well again as party advisors.
6Rolan - Great Wizard In The Making
Rolan Could Make A Formidable Ally Or Enemy
Most people will remember Rolan as the arrogant wizard apprentice who can be met by the party in the Emerald Grove, and depending on choices made there, show up again drunk in Act 2. ButRolan has a lot more depth if you take the time to speak with him, especially if you help him escape the cruel Lorroakan in Act 3. Taking a closer look at some of the spells Rolan wields reveals that they are usually more powerful versions of spells likeMagic MissileandColour Spray, making him a powerful potential ally.
Rolan could plausibly have two paths should he appear inBG4;as one of the allies or the villain. As a powerful wizard, Rolan would make a fantastic companion, and this would be a great extension of his brief storyline inBG3. However, as he’s now in control of Ramazith’s Tower with no oversight, Rolan could follow in the dark footsteps of the tower’s previous owners.
5Alfira - Bardic Apprentice Turned Teacher
Alfira Would Be The Perfect Bard Companion Candidate
Alfira is often on many lists ofBG3characters people wish were companions or romance options, and it’s not hard to see why. The cute and cheerful tiefling isa ray of sunshine in whatever scene she is in, uplifting even the melancholy ones with her optimism. Keeping Alfira and the other tieflings safe until they reach Baldur’s Gate means that Alfira plans to open her own bard school.
Alfira will be killed during any Dark Urge playthrough unless steps are taken tokeep her alive. While this might rule her out for future installments,BG4devs could implement a system similar to theDragon Age Keepor in-game toggles for vitalBG3moments.
If Alfira came back toBG4, thenit would be awesome to finally have her as a full companion in all her bardic glory. This would be the perfect opportunity to learn more about her and her past, perhaps how she learned from her teacher Lihala. It would also be great to see how her own students are progressing and if her school is well-known.
4Halsin - Over 300 Years Of Adventures To Explore
BG3 Barely Scratched The Surface
Halsin is already a companion inBG3that gets a fair amount of attention early in the game, with a large portion of Act 1 dedicated to freeing him from the goblins. However, although he does get some of his backstory explored during his personal quest to lift the Shadow Curse, there is so much more about Halsin that is barely touched on. In early access, Halsin’s story was much more tragic, and even after release, some aspects of his past and his feelings about it have been altered in subsequent patches.
Letting Halsin return in some capacity inBG4would allow for more of his history to be explored and expanded on. As one of the older companions,Halsin has over 300 years of adventures to call onfor lore, quests, and other NPCs who could make an appearance. I’d love to see how Halsin has settled into life after rebuilding Reithwin and whether or not he still yearns to roam or has become more at ease in one location.
3Minthara - Provides A Different Point Of View
BG4 Should Give Evil Companions More Attention
Minthara is another companion whose full backstory is only briefly engaged with inBG3. Originally intended to be the ‘evil’ option for the party in place of Halsin, it was later patched to allow Minthara to join the group more easily. However, very little was done to flesh out her story more thoroughly, resulting in little for the paladin to do once you hit Act 3.
Giving Minthara a larger and more permanent spot in futureBaldur’s Gateinstallments wouldallow her to grow as a character as more of her history is uncovered. I think it would be better if she still remained true to her drow heritage and provided that much-needed different point of view in terms of morality. Letting her take more of the spotlight would be a great way to explore drow culture or even take a trip to Menzoberranzan.
2Raphael - Friend, Adversary, Or Savior?
Given the ending ofBG3, it seems inevitable that Raphael will return for future games. With the Crown of Karsus being the cunning cambion’s focus, there are a few ways Raphael could come into play inBG4, depending on what happened with the powerful relic. If reforged by Gale and either taken by him or returned to Mystra, Raphael could return with another plan to seize power in the Hells.
The Crown of Karsus was originally in the possession of Mephistopheles, Raphael’s father, who notably did not use the crown himself and instead locked it away.
However, if Raphael already has the crown, thenI think he’d make an interesting ally again rather than the primary antagonist. It’s much more fun to have Raphael do the unexpected and work with the party than fall back on tired tropes. It could also be the case that Raphael has struggled after the events ofBG3, either because of his defeat or because he’s failed to conquer the Hells, so having him needing the party in some way also provides plenty of quest material.
1Wyll - Has A Lot To Offer
BG4 Could Use Wyll To His Full Potential
Another companion that definitely needs to return forBaldur’s Gate 4in some capacity is Wyll Ravengard. Wyll suffered from extensive rewrites between early access and full release, leaving his storyline lacking and unfairly labeling him as boring for many players. As the son of a prominent political figure in the region with ties to storylines in the Hells and the Sword Coast,Wyll had so much potential that it wasn’t used.
Letting Wyll come back could go some way to make up for his weakBaldur’s Gate 3storyline, allowing him to flourish in a similar role to Jaheira and Minsc before him.Wyll would make the perfect wise older team memberwho could help the new protagonist fight evil with helpful advice from his time facing the Absolute.
