Warning: This post contains MAJOR spoilers for Jurassic World Rebirth.Jurassic World Rebirthhas finally arrived, andthe new film introduces an exciting cast of wonderful characters. Following up on theending ofJurassic World Dominion,Rebirthbegins in a world where dinosaurs only exist in certain locations. The film’s plot is built around a mission to extract DNA from one of these areas.

Each era of theJurassicfranchise was focused on an ensemble of great characters.TheJurassic Parkfilms introduced Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm, while the firstJurassic Worldtrilogy followed Owen Grady and Claire Dearing. With thecast ofRebirth, a true ensemble has been set up with many characters who could persist in the series.

While the appeal of theJurassicfilms is largely centered around the dinosaurs themselves, with some of thebestJurassicscenes featuring the T. rex,it is also essential that a strong group of people be given focus. The human stories are just as important as the action to ensure audiences care about what occurs, as exemplified by these strong figures.

10Bobby Atwater

A Distasteful Mercenary Played By The Excellent Ed Skrein

Bobby Atwater had some potential in the new film, and could have been one ofEd Skrein’s best roles. The actor brings an interesting edge to the film as a mercenary, buthe is clearly not intended to be liked.Atwater clashes with Loomis by talking about killing dinosaurs, then insisting that they should not respond to the distress call.

Set up to be fodder for the dinosaurs,Atwater is quickly devoured by a Spinosaurusin one of the film’s early scenes. Despite having a great performer, there is little for the character to do in the movie, and he is dispatched too quickly to make much of an impact.

9Martin Krebs

The Profiteering Foe Is Played By Rupert Friend

Martin Krebs is set up to be hated, and the film does a good job with this. Opening with Krebs meeting Zora,he shows little affection for dinosaurs and expresses care only for profit. This follows with him taking small, fiendish actions throughout the film, including attempting to stop Isabella from calling for help and nearly allowing her to die.

While Krebs is the main villain of the piece, however, his eventual abandoning of the group and running away with the DNA feels akin to a minor villain likeJurassic Park’s Dennis Nedry. While a decent force in the film,Krebs is mostly forgettable, and even his death feels small.

8Reuben Delgado

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo Plays The Father On Vacation

Reuben Delgado is a good addition to the ensemble of the film, buthis character is given little room to grow throughout the picture. He cares for his daughters, and he has a strained relationship with his daughter’s boyfriend, for whom he eventually grows some respect. There is little more to his story.

As a mostly clichéd father of daughters, the character of Reuben doesn’t add much toRebirth. Garcia-Rulfo plays him well, but his story feels more adjacent to the emotional and physical journeys of the other characters. He adds a bit of heart and relatability, but does not wind up being an especially memorable addition to the cast.

7LeClerc

Béchir Sylvain’s Mercenary Has A Great Moment In The Film

Arguably the strongest minor character in the film, LeClerc is a mercenary who works alongside Kincaid. While through most of the story he is relegated to the background,he is given an important moment when Loomis and Zora are raiding the Quetzalcoatlus' cave.He throws a rock to attract the dinosaur’s attention, saving the heroes.

This allows the mission to be completed, but it comes at a heavy cost. After saving the other heroes in this valiant manner, LeClerc attempts to escape back to the group. Unfortunately,he is eaten by the large, winged dinosaur, causing one of the more impactful andmemorable deaths in theJurassicfranchise.

6Isabella Delgado (And Dolores)

Aurdina Miranda Plays The Youngest Daughter

Isabella is a fun addition to the film that adds some great tension to certain scenes. While she makes a terrifying target for some of the dinosaurs, she also shows a fun spirit throughout the movie’s runtime.Much of this comes with her adopting a baby Aquilops, whom she names Dolores.

The Aquilops is an herbivore from the Early Cretaceous period. Its name is derived from Latin and translates to “eagle face.”

Dolores is an adorable feature in the film, and her inclusion feels similar toBaby Yoda fromStar Wars. Still, the small dinosaur and her relationship with Isabella are strong, andthe two create real tension when they are in danger. There is great care for these two, and there is hope for them to reappear in future sequels.

5Duncan Kincaid

Mahershala Ali Brings Some Heart To The Film

Introduced as a conniving mercenary, Kincaid is actually one of the most emotionally resonant figures in the film. While he is not given quite enough focus, the story of him losing his child and how that motivates him is told in the background. This leads Kincaid to care for the Delgado siblings, with ensuring their survival being his highest priority.

Ali is one of the best actors working today, and he brings some of that gravitas to the film.Duncan’s fate inRebirthwas up in the air for a while, ashe chooses to sacrifice himself at the end to save the others.Fortunately, he survives this event, and more of his story can now be told in future sequels.

4Teresa Delgado

The Older Sister Played By Luna Blaise

Luna Blaise plays the older daughter of the Delgado family, and brings some great charm to the character. She acts as an effective go-between for her father and her boyfriend, andis understanding, caring, and complex. She is marked by her relationships, her intelligence, and her adaptability.

In distress, Blaise’s performance adds a great deal of tension to one of the best scenes in the film. During atense sequence cut from the originalJurassic Park, she inflates a raft while avoiding a Tyrannosaurus Rex.This turns into an exciting chase sequence, where the audience must care about Teresa.Fortunately, this works well.

3Zora Bennett

Scarlett Johansson Brings Her Signature Charm To The Franchise

Jurassic WorldRebirthfulfills Scarlett Johansson’s dreamof being a part of the popular franchise, and she is a great presence in the film. Her story doesn’t have a great deal of depth, butshe does have a compelling journey alongside Loomis.

Zora grows to appreciate the beauty of the dinosaurs, and it is shown by the film’s end that she is driven by a chance to help people. Played with humor and style,Zora is fun to watch onscreen as the main muscle of the team.

With a moral compass that seems to wag back and forth, between making a fortune as a mercenary, or giving up the DNA to the public,Zora has some development throughout the film.Johansson is a strong performer for the character, although there may not be quite enough time with Zora considering the film’s expansive ensemble cast.

2Xavier Dobbs

David Iacono Shows The Potential For Excellent Growth

One of the unfortunate side effects of having such a large cast of characters inRebirthis that few of them have sufficient screentime to develop. Fortunately,Xavier has one of the best journeys in the film.He starts by being incredibly unlikable, conniving his way out of steering the boat, before slowly showing stronger and better parts of himself.

There is depth to Xavier. He has insecurities, as shown by lamenting how he doesn’t know what Teresa sees in him. Fortunately, the audience gets to see his worth multiple times, beginning with when he dives into the water after Teresa without sparing a second thought.

Played with great style and substance, Xavier slowly wins over the audience. The character could go on to be a major playerin the future of theJurassicfranchise.

1Dr. Henry Loomis

Jonathan Bailey Stands Out As A Passionate Scientist

Jonathan Bailey is a star, and his character inRebirthis the best in the film.Having trained under Alan Grant, Loomis has a connection to the largerJurassicfranchiseand plays the role of the curious and passionate scientist who cares about the dinosaurs. He brings some humor and heart to the charmingly awkward character.

Loomis is brought along on the mission and carries the moral compass of the group.Drawing comparisons to philanthropic researchers throughout history like Jonas Salk, Loomis wishes for the betterment of humankind inJurassic World Rebirth, making him the most interesting and strongest character in the film.
