TheAvengersare the finest collection of heroes in the Marvel Universe. Over the years, they’ve had dozens of iterations with hundreds of members, each of whom brings something unique to the table. Butsome Avengers are reallyable to stand out from their allies thanks to their unique superpowers.
Sure, most Avengers are strong or fast. But how many are like Synapse and able to manipulate brainwaves? Or Valkyrie, who can literally sense death before it happens? Whileevery Avenger has something specialto them, the following 10 heroes have a unique or creative powerthat helps separate them from the pack.
10White Tiger
Power: God Summoning
Ava Ayala isn’t the first person to use the White Tiger mantle, but unlike her predecessors, Ava is the first of them to get in with the Avengers. Like the previous White Tigers, Ava doesn’t have any innate superpowers. However, she does possess the amulets that endowed her brother with power given by the Tiger God.
With the amulets, White Tiger isn’t just stronger, faster, and more durable. Ava can summon the Tiger God, an ancient fear deity. While White Tiger’s powers are dependent on herbeing in contact with her amulets, what they allow her to do really helps her stand out from the rest of the hero community.
9Starfox
Power: Emotion Manipulation
Starfox isone of the Eternalsand, as such, has a swath of powers thanks to his Celestial heritage. But more than just his enhanced physical powers or his incredibly long lifespan, Eros has the power to manipulate people’s emotional states, essentially giving him complete and utter control over them.
It’s admittedly a dangerous power, as few people, if any, are actually able to resist his superpowered charms. He even got into legal trouble over them and earned a savage thrashing from She-Hulk when she realized Eros had used his powers on her. It’s a power that gives one the ick, but it’s unique among other Avengers.
8Synapse
Power: Brain Manipulation
The Marvel Universe is lousy with heroes that can get into people’s heads, but Synapse is a special case. Emily Guerrero is an Inhuman, and when she was exposed to the Terrigen Mist, she discovered she was granted telepathic powers that allowed her to control the electric signals in people’s brains.
In addition to being able to communicate telepathically and possess people’s brains, Synapse can prevent anyone’s powers from activating by controlling the part of the brain responsible for them. She can even shut other parts down, making people fall asleep ormaking them lose control of different parts of their bodies.
73-D Man
Power: Tri-Force Vision
Delroy Garrett, Jr., also known as Triathlon or 3-D Man, might have a garish costume and a questionable name (but what hero doesn’t?). But don’t be fooled, as Garrett is hiding an incredibly cool power. As his name implies, he has a special way of seeing the world, thanks to the Tri-Force energy flowing within him.
By focusing his energy into his eyes, 3-D Man essentially gains truesight and is able to see things as they really are. He cansuss out impostors such as Skrullsno matter what form they take. This Tri-Force Vision also allows him to clearly see through telepathic illusions projected into his mind.
6Mantis
Power: Astral Projection
Over the years, Mantis has demonstrated a lot of amazing skills, from powerful martial arts to incredible mental abilities such as telepathy and hyper-empathy. But all of those pale in comparison to her greatest power: Being able to astral project herself anywhere. Mantis can project her consciousness across the void of spaceand even into alternate universes.
Mantis’ astral projection is also augmented by her existence as a plant hybrid, and she can project herself to anyplace plant life exists. She can even create a copy of herself out of any plant life she projects into. Mantis’ astral projection isn’t just cool, it’s incredibly handy for getting literally anywhere.
5Valkyrie
Power: Death Perception
A warrior like Brunnhilde, aka Valkyrie, is used to death. But it’s not just limited to what she encounters on the battlefield. Valkyrie is blessed, or in some cases, cursed, with the ability to see a death-glow. Whenevershe meets someone who is close to death, Valkyrie can perceive it.
Of course, the death-glow doesn’t necessarily mean people are about to meet their maker. Often it serves as a warning signal to alert Valkyrie of imminent danger, giving her a chance to save people in need. It can be a grim sight, but it’s one that’s unique to the Avenger.
4Impossible City
Power: Dimensional Travel
Impossible City is an incredibly new Avenger, but it’s proven itself quite useful for the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. As its name suggests, Impossible City is a massive cityscape that is sentient and travels throughout quantum space. The living metropolis is able to generate portals thatallow it to travel to different parts of the universeand the greater multiverse.
Sure, Impossible City isn’t a conventional Avenger by any means, but it helped the heroes out of a serious jam. And let’s face it, a sentient city that can travel anywhere in the multiverse is pretty unique, even for a hero franchise that has had hundreds of creative members over the years.
3Captain Britain
Power: Confidence-Based Superpowers
His name might sound similar to the Avengers’ most patriotic member, but Captain Britain couldn’t be more different. Brian Braddock has devoted his life to protecting his homeland and he believes in himself greater than most heroes. And that confidence is incredibly important to how Captain Britain’s powers actually work.
Captain Britain has the standard range of powers, such as enhanced strength and durability. But they come from a general confidence in himself. All he has to do is believe in himself and there’s virtually nothing that Braddock can’t do. As long as his faith is strong,Captain Britain is virtually unstoppable.
2Spider-Man
Power: Spider-Sense
Spider-Man infamously does what a spider can. But his coolest power, and the one that’s kept his butt safe all these years, is his special, iconic ‘Spider-Sense’. When Peter Parker was bitten by the radioactive spider, he didn’t just gain enhanced physical powers and the ability to stick to walls.
Whatever danger is on the horizon, whether it be a villain or a destructive event,Spider-Man can feel it coming, giving him just enough time to react. While it doesn’t always help if Peter’s overwhelmed, having the old Spider-Sense tingling has really helped Spider-Man become one of the most iconic heroes around.
1Noh-Varr
Power: Enhanced Kree Physiology
It’s hard to list just one special, unique power that Noh-Varr has. Noh-Varr is a Kree who was altered with insect DNA, and it had an incredibly wild effect on his body. Aside from his body being enhanced in a general sense, things like his spit and fingernails have unique properties of their own.
Noh-Varr’s saliva has psychoactive properties that can actually take control of people’s minds. And his fingernails can be embedded into objects or even people to explode. That’s just scraping the surface of how weird his body is. But Noh-Varr certainly gets points forhow uncommon his powers are among other Avengers heroes.
