While Nintendo DS RPGs haven’t always had the platform to reach a wide audience,Dragon Quest 9: Sentinels of the Starry Skiesproved to be record-breaking for one of the oldest RPG series ever until its eleventh entry came along. Despite the graphical deficiencies of the DS,Dragon Quest 9did a lot of great things that make it one of the best games on the console. The problem is, it’s almost impossible to play any DS game on modern consoles if that game doesn’t have some sort of official port or remake.

There are a lot of great Nintendo DS titles that have been unable to escape the console onto some more modern hardware, and it is a bit odd thatDragon Quest 9,of all games, has suffered a similar fate. TheDragon Questseries doesn’t have a lot of games on modern consoles to begin with, although this is something being rectified with modern remakes, starting fromDQ1and working chronologically. It might be time to skip a few entries and head straight forDragon Quest 9, however, given everything it has done for the series.

The Customization Options Of Dragon Quest IX Are Unmatched

BeforeDragon Quest 11came along,Dragon Quest 9set records for the series in terms of sales numbers and has just turned fifteen, but despite what it meant for the series, it isn’t easily accessible on modern consoles. Porting or remastering DS titles is always a difficult task, given its dual screens, but the Switch has hosted quite a few remastered and remade DS titles. It would be theperfect console forDragon Quest 9, especially with its stylized graphics.

Dragon Quest 9 was releasedin 2009 and was developed by Square Enix alongside Level-5 and Armor Project.

It could haveDQ11’s aesthetic too, making it more appealing to a wider audience.
