It seems the heart of the story lies in the existential struggle between former Emperor Aeon’s thirst for revenge and the player character’s desire to save the last of their species from extinction. There are many factions out there among the stars, all with their own power struggles, and the player’s decisions will have lasting effects, just like inThe Witcher 3.

Players will have to carefully balance Aeon’s temperature as they battle their way through the galaxy. Normal fighting moves heat up Aeon, while special moves cool him down. Cooling down too much could spell disaster, as Aeon will become drained, and overheating allows special moves to be used without the cooldown penalty. Players should be careful, because in either state they can be defeated with just one hit.

Being defeated in this game, according to Focus Home Interactive’s Creative Producer Miguel Rey Garcia, leaves the player with a difficult choice: “Will you get up and fight again? Or will you die with honor?” Choosing to continue after being defeated gives the symbiote Aeon more control over decision making over time as hewears down the main character’s mental barriers. Choosing to die means the player starts over, but they will keep their upgrades and progression. Miguel admits, “There is a third option… but we won’t reveal that just yet.”
