Cluelessstar Alicia Silverstone addresses the current status of the TV series continuation of her classic coming-of-age comedy in a promising update. The 1995 featurefilm, directed by Amy Heckerling, wasa retelling of Jane Austen’s 1815 novelEmma. Silverstone led the cast ofCluelessas Cher Horowitz, a well-meaning and popular student who tries to help others.
As Silverstone made an appearance onTODAY, the actress opened up about the status of Peacock’sCluelessshow. The star stated that while she couldn’t say much, she is eager to tell a new story that faithfully recaptures what made Cher so beloved while also bringing something fresh, with the project still in its early stages. Check out Silverstone’s full response below:

Not much, I’m really excited about it. I think we’re going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about ‘Clueless’ and Cher. So we want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it. I’m confident that we’ll be able to do that, but we’re in baby stages right now."
What Clueless' Latest Update Means For The Series
Though Silverstone may not have been able to offer too many details at the time of writing, it is still a much-needed optimistic update forCluelessfans. The series was confirmed to be in development in 2019, but has endured several major production shifts since its announcement.
In 2020, theCluelessshow was slated to release on Peacock, only to later be passed over by the streaming service just a year later in 2021, moving from Peacock to CBS Studios. News on its development would then fall silent for four years until 2025, when Peacock recomitted to the project with Silverstone reprising her role of Cher.

With the announcement of Silverstone’s return and her recent comments focusing heavily on Cher, it can be assumed that the premise of the sequel series has been readjusted. When initially announced, it was stated that the series would focus onStacey Dash’s Dionne Davenportdealing with Cher’s absence in her later life.
However, with Silverstone emphasising an intent torecapture Cher andClueless’smain appeals, it can now be theorised that the series will be a far more traditional follow-up centered on Cher’s later life. Still, it doesn’t mean that Dionne’s struggle of living without Cher has been completely abandoned, as that could be reworked into a separate arc.

Our Thoughts On Silverstone’s Clueless TV Show Update
Despite its popularity and lasting impact, aCluelessTV continuation is a challenging project. As shown byCruel Intentions' cancellation, being a beloved and influential property doesn’t guarantee that audiences will resonate with a new retelling or entry, no matter the original’s impact.
Given how six years have passed since the initial announcement, it is clear that theCluelessseries is taking its time to get things right. However, with Silverstone’s optimistic comments, we now know that development is active and ongoing on Cher’s next chapter.
