WhileAnthemmay have been one of thebest games of E3 2018, it’s not without its critics. One of the biggest complaints about the gameplay showcased so far is the floating damage numbers, which many have considered obnoxious, too large, out of place, or an eyesore. Nevertheless, it has been known that Mark Darrah, the game’s executive producer, has been looking into the issue.
This morning, Darrah took to Twitter and showed an update concerning this complaint about the online action role-playing game. Presumably taken straight fromAnthem,Darrah posted options to change the floating damage display. The screenshot shows the player’s having the ability to turn the floaties on or off, as well as having sliders to reduce or increase the opacity and size of the display.
Many of those interested inAnthem, but turned off by the damage floaties, should be glad to hear that BioWare is taking into account fan feedback. The relationship between a developer and its fanbase can often be key to the success of a game, a lesson BioWare may be familiar with after the blowback ofMass Effect: Andromeda,so many may take this as an indication that the company is listening. Speaking of fan feedback, various details aboutAnthem, including the floating damage numbers, are often compared toDestiny. The narrative surroundingAnthemfollowing its E3 presentation is not unlikeDestiny’s2014 E3 presentation, which Activision was able to turn around with a closed alpha and beta, somethingAnthemshould perhaps consider takingfromDestiny’splaybook.
It has been confirmed for some time thatAnthemwill feature a beta, but that’s not likely to launch until late 2018 or early 2019 - something sooner could very well improve the narrative ofAnthem.Responding to the fan feedback about the floating damage issue, though, is definitely a step forward, and hopefully, something more solid comes soon.
