Larian Studios has pushed a hotfiix forBaldur’s Gate 3which rectifies an odd and psychedelic bug. The CRPG recently saw its final major content update, Patch 8, which added12 new subclasses, one for each class, but the studio’s work on the game isn’t fully complete.BG3is still receiving general maintenance through smaller updates like this one.

Among a number of other changes in Hotfix #31’s patch notes onSteam(viaPCGamesN) isa fix for “the kaleidoscope of colours that appear when changing locations.“The unintended effect is quite psychedelic, and the patch notes jokingly begin with, “Been tripping hard? It’s not you, it’s us (Probably).” The rest of the patch notes are rather predictable, being fixes targeting a wide range of bugs and crashes.

Hotfix #31 Hits “Kaleidoscope” Glitch And More

You’ll Have To Find Some Ziran Now

The so-called kaleidoscope glitch is the marquee fix in Hotfix #31, as it seems to have been fairly prevalent. It usually occurs when fast traveling to waypointsacrossBaldur’s Gate 3’s map, but could also occur when loading any kind of new area. The patch notes describe the bug as “trippy, high-saturation graphical artefacts.” That’s not all that was targeted in Hotfix #31, though.

Larian has specifically noted a fix for crashing that would occur when hovering over items in your inventory or on the bartering menu. There are also a number of tweaks for the new subclasses, such as allowing Hexblade warlocks to replace a spell at level two, something the other warlock subclasses are able to do. Other changes have been made to gameplay, scripting, thephoto mode also added in Patch 8, and various UI elements.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Still Gets Plenty Of Support After “Final Patch”

Bug Fixes Continue Following Patch 8

Patch 8 was billed as the final major update toBaldur’s Gate 3, butthat doesn’t mean support for the game has entirely stopped. Larian Studios is largely moving on to other projects, but there is clearly still a team ironing out some technical wrinkles that persist in the massive RPG. Bugs and performance issues have been prevalent throughout the game’s life, and while it’s in a fairly solid state after Patch 8 and Hotfix #31, there are still things that could be fixed.

Larian’s dedication toBG3is admirable, and it clearly paid off. The game is widely beloved and continues to be incredibly popular, especially compared to other CRPGs and non-PvP games. The kaleidoscope glitch was pretty tame as far as bugs go, but it was clearly the game not working as intended, even if it was entertaining a time or two.Baldur’s Gate 3is still very much a labor of love for Larian Studios, even if the developer’s work has primarily moved on to other projects.
