Bethesda isn’t done withStarfieldyet, after a new promise of future updates coming later this year was made. Since the release of the game’s first (and currently only)major expansion in Septemberlast year, a lot of the game’s community has turned to mods for additional content and support, after many found the DLC underwhelming and the long wait times in between updates frustrating. But now, it looks like the game may be getting a revitalizer sometime soon.

According to a post on X from the officialBethesda Game Studiosaccount, in addition to the beta release of Update 1.15.222, there will be additional updates this year, with the post reading:“Looking ahead, we’re continuing work on future updates and will share more about the exciting things we have planned for Starfield in the coming months.“The latest update provides some general stability and crash fixes.

What Could Bethesda Be Cooking For Starfield?

There’s Possibly A Second Expansion In Development

For what these “exciting” updates could be,there are several possibilities. Back in 2024, a potentialsecond DLC expansion calledStarbornwas leaked. If that rumor becomes reality, it will likely see a late-year release, likeShattered Spacebefore it. There could also be updates to the game’s extensive modding community tools or better integration of existing mods.

One of the most discussed possibilities is the release ofStarfieldon PlayStation 5sometime this year. The PS logo was spotted on a platform compatibility section for a mod, giving more fuel to the rumor fire. Additionally, Xbox head Phil Spencer previously shot down the idea ofIndiana Jones and the Great Circleon PS5(also published by Bethesda), but it has since been released on the system, so aPS5 version isn’t impossible.

Starfield Desperately Needs Updates

A Decent Game With Untapped Potential

Arguably,Starfieldis being carried by its modding communityright now, and not the developers themselves, though manymodders have since abandoned the game, too. The game was just fine upon release, but as the newest IP from a studio as legendary as Bethesda, “fine” just wasn’t good enough for a lot of fans.

Open-world game design has come a long way sinceThe Elder Scrolls 4: OblivionandSkyrim, andStarfieldhas the right ingredients; it’s just never found a way to mix them all together in a satisfying way. Hopefully, whatever Bethesda is cooking is exciting for fans, both old and new, as we should learn more about the future ofStarfieldsometime soon.
