Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Aliens vs Avengers #4TheAlienfranchise has just debuted on the most horrifying versions of the Xenomorph Queen yet, possessing one unique element that’s particularly disturbing. Currently, both theAlienandPredatorfranchises are thriving with new projects, and this includes on the page with new comics coming from Marvel. However, one of the most fascinating has beenAliens vs Avengers, an alt-timeline series where Xenomorphs have been unleashed upon the 616, culminating with the debut of a brand-new Queen.

A four-issue miniseries by Johnathan Hickman and Esad Ribic,Aliens vs Avengerstakes place afterAlien: Covenant.Michael Fassbender’s synthetic villain David 8has amassed more Davids to his side and has achieved multiversal travel, seeding countless planets with Xenomorph eggs before watching the inevitable massacre. This now includes Marvel’s 616, as nearly the whole of humanity has been wiped out, along with mutants on Mars, and the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda. Now, this series has culminated with the debut of a new Xenomorph Queen inAliens vs Avengers #4, possessing one of the scariest traits I’ve ever seen in theAlienfranchise.

Mister Sinister Xenomorph in Aliens vs Avengers #4

Marvel Has Created An Unholy Union Between A Xenomorph And Mister Sinister

A Huge All-Red Alien Alpha

Naturally,Mister Sinister has been shown on the side of the Xenomorphs, revering their status as he believes them to be the peak of evolution.Mister Sinister’s entire thing is experimentation and manipulation in the service of achieving genetic perfection, it darkly makes sense that he’d see the Xenomorphs as the prime species. This is especially true with his discovery that they preserve the genetic DNA of their hosts/victims who are implanted with their embryos (before bursting out of their chests).

Prior issues confirmed Sinister and his clones willingly implanted themselves with embryos he’d experimented on to delay their incubation, thereby sparing himself from the adult specimens. Likewise,Sinister’s clones were literally shown firing facehuggers from gunsat the last of humanity who’d come to Mars seeking asylum after Earth was overrun. However,Aliens vs Avengers #4now shows Sinister taking things even further.

Seeking to evolve, Mister Sinister creates a brand-new kind of Xenomorph in this new issue, as a larger and all-red Queen emerges at the beginning of this issue from the corpse of one of Sinister’s clones. As such, the unique look is made complete by Sinister’s iconic red diamond on its forehead.Possessing a range of abilities stolen from the DNA of X-Men long gone, the worst ability of Marvel’s new Xenomorph Queen is quite simple (yet no less disturbing): it can smile.

The New Xenomorph’s Scariest Ability? It Can Smile

Forget Teleportation

Even as this newSinisterized Xenomorph Queenis shown ripping the Marvel Universe’s last few heroes apart as it teleports around the battlefield like Nightcrawler, I can’t get over its chilling smile. Let’s let that sink in for a second. As if a basic Xenomorph wasn’t bad enough as a nearly unstoppable killing machine, this new Xenomorph Queen is smiling the entire time, letting you know it’senjoyingkilling everyone you’ve ever known (and you’re next).

Keeping that in mind, very satisfying to see how Marvel’s new Sinister Queen is ultimately defeated thanks to Venom, as the symbiote managed to rip the Queen apart from the inside out, becoming a literal alpha in the process. As proven by this issue, it takes an alien to beat an alien. At any rate, theAlienfranchise is going to be hard-pressed to find a new variant design as scary as the Sinister Queen was with its awful smile.
