In an interview withPeopleat the Gotham TV Awards on July 04, 2025,Big Little Liescreator David E. Kelley gave some positive updates on the potentialBig Little Liesseason 3. He revealed that there is still a strong push to bring the third season to life and that “everyone is very committed” to making it happen. “We had a great time doing the first two seasons and we all want to do it again,” Kelley revealed.Since theBig Little Liesseason 2 finale was released, Kelley has created more than a dozen TV series and miniseries, includingGoliath,Big Shot,Love & Death,Presumed Innocent, andThe Lincoln Lawyer.

“We’re hoping it happens… We had a great time doing the first two seasons and we all want to do it again. You need to corral a lot of high-caliber talent and their publicists, but everyone is very committed to it. We haven’t really all gotten together to brainstorm yet, but again, it’s a great stable of talent. Once we do [get together], I think we have a good shot of figuring it out.”
What Kelley’s Hopeful Comments Mean For Big Little Lies Season 3
Development & Casting Still Haven’t Begun, But Hope Remains High
While Kelley remains optimistic aboutBig Little Liesseason 3, there is still no confirmation or official slate of returning cast members for the highly anticipated HBO project. Some cast members, includingZoë Kravitz, have been anxiously waiting for updateslike the rest of theBig Little Liesfandom. AnHBO executive recently stressed the significance of patienceduring this process, stating that theBig Little Liesseason 3 team just needs “to sit tight.“Kelley’s comments echo these sentiments of playing a waiting game, which most likely has to do with the busy schedules of all this A-list talent.
That said, the fact that Kelley remains optimistic aboutBig Little Liesseason 3 in 2025, six years after season 2, is a promising sign. Most series could not endure such a gap between seasons and maintain so much fan and cast interest. The only other example of that is Sam Levinson’sEuphoria, another highly anticipated HBO show which has still not released its third season (but did release its most recent season in 2022). Kelley’s comments, however, reveal thatthere hasn’t been any story development yet forBig Little Liesseason 3, which is not the greatest news considering how much time has passed.
Our Take On The Current Status Of Big Little Lies Season 3
Despite Strong Interest, Season 3 Is Nowhere Near Where It Should Be
Kelley continues to be one of the busiest TV producers in Hollywood, responsible for creating dozens of original and limited series dating back to 1997’s popular legal dramaAlly McBeal. The delay inBig Little Liesseason 3 coming to fruition has as much to do with his schedule as it does with those of his ensemble cast. While this offers some justification and clarity,it is concerning that not a single cast member has officially signed on for season 3and that the writers haven’t even begun brainstorming at this stage.
Kelley’s comments on Big Little Lies season 3 offer much in the form of wishful hope, but little in actionable promise.
IfBig Little Liesseason 3 were to actually happen, viewers may be lucky to see it before the end of the decade, and a time jump in the storyline would likely be necessary. Kelley’s recent comments offer much in the form of wishful hope, but little in actionable promise.
