BoschstarTitus Welliverhas landed a new role in an upcoming crime drama series with another notable actor afterBosch: Legacy’s cancelation.Bosch: Legacyseason 3 marked the end of Welliver’s time leading a series as the titular detective, something he’d done throughout seven seasons ofBoschprior to the sequel series. While the universe of the show will continue in theupcomingBallardspinoff, the actor will no longer be the lead character in the show. He’ll still appear in some capacity going forward, but his time as the face of the series is at an end.
Now,Deadlinereports thatWelliver will be leading a period crime drama series,The Westies, alongside J.K. Simmons. The series, co-created by Chris Brancato and Michael Panes, takes place in the 1980s, focusing on the Irish-American gang of the same name benefiting from the construction of the Jacob Javitz Convention Center. However, internal conflicts and ever-growing FBI snooping could spell danger for the gang members. Welliver portrays NYPD officer Glenn Keenan, who was raised by the Westies, while Simmons portrays the gang’s leader, Eamon Sweeney. The eight-episode series will air on MGM+, with filming beginning in July.

Brancato also serves as showrunner and executive producer onThe Westies.
The latter role was originally for a backdoor pilot before the flagship series was canceled. Both actors are seasoned enough thatThe Westiesbringing them together makes for an intriguing combination.
The Westiesseems like it will focus on generational ideals from a gangster perspective, as the conflict will be between younger and older members of the group. For Welliver, some elements might carry over fromBosch: Legacyseason 3, which saw his title character in conflict with his daughter, Maddie (Madison Lintz), for some of his decisions. However, this seems to be on a wider scale forThe Westies, something that will be the crux of the larger conflict as the gang mixes their criminal activities with new methods of earning large amounts of money.
