Cobra Kai’s composer pitched a great idea for a spinoff. Netflix’s continuation ofThe Karate Kidfranchise, led by William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence and Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, became a global phenomenon.Cobra Kaiwrapped with season 6, which included the introduction of theSekai Taikai world karate tournament, and a new enemy dojo, the Iron Dragons, led by Sensei Wolf (Lewis Tan).
In an interview withScreenRant’s Owen Danoff,Cobra Kai’s co-composer Zach Robinson revealed hispitch for a spinoff about Sensei Wolf, which he proposed to executive producer Hayden Schlossberg. While Robinson, who is also co-composer ofTwisted Metal, admits his idea is"not going to happen,“Zach detailed his intriguing concept of continuing the story ofCobra Kaivillain Sensei Wolf. Read Robinson’s quote below:

ScreenRant: I’ve seen some quotes [with Ralph Macchio] saying he’s talked to the guys about other spinoffs. I know you either don’t know or couldn’t say, but is there anything you would want to see?
Zach Robinson: I’ll tell you what I want to see, but it’s not going to happen. We’re not going to know. We’ll be the last to know. But [there’s] one that Leo and I fantasize all the time about, and I pitched to Hayden.

Hayden, I think, is tired of hearing me talk about it, but we want a Wolf spinoff where it’s a different tone than the show, and it’s a little darker. Wolf has lost the Sakai, so his debts remain. Terry Silver’s dead. In order to get out of debt, he has to go back to Hong Kong. There’s a throwaway line in the intro to when Darryl introduces Wolf, where he says, “Winner of the Seven Circuits.” And Leo and I have been like, “What are the Seven Circuits?”
Wolf goes back to Hong Kong, has to fight in the, I don’t know, semi-annual or centennial Seven Circuits to basically get out of debt. And through that you learn, “How did Wolf become Wolf?” And it’s a gritty Hong Kong-style action show. I really want that. It’s not going to happen.
Maybe I’ll just make a show that has nothing to do with Wolf, but that’s the plot. That’s what I want to see.
Why A Cobra Kai Sensei Wolf Spinoff Is A Great Idea
It Would Be A New Kind Of Story In The Cobra Kai Universe
Zach Robinson’sCobra Kaispinoff concept centering on Sensei Wolf is intriguing.Cobra Kaiseason 6 juggled so many characters and storylines thatrelatively little was revealed about Sensei Wolf.Robinson’s pitch delving into what happens to Sensei Wolf after his humiliating loss to Johnny Lawrence in the Sekai Taikai could illuminate his character and answer the lingering question of the “Seven Circuits.” A Hong Kong-style action show set in theCobra Kaiuniverse sounds like a winner.
Wolf (real name Feng Xiao) was the ideal instantly formidable antagonistCobra Kaineeded in its final season to test Johnny, Daniel, and their students. An accomplished martial artist like Lewis Tan’s addition toCobra Kai,along with world championRayna Vallandingham as Zara Malik, added a new level of verisimilitude to the Sekai Taikai inCobra Kai’s final season. Sensei Wolf would be a fascinating character to base aCobra Kaispinoff around, even if it won’t happen.
Our Take On Zach Robinson’s Cobra Kai Spinoff Idea
Cobra Kai Has Many Options For Spinoffs
Zach Robinson admits there’s no traction for hisCobra Kaispinoff idea, which is disappointing. Sensei Wolf made a powerful impression inCobra Kai season 6, andhe was a perfect rival for Johnny Lawrence. LikeJohnny inCobra Kai,a Sensei Wolf spinoff could explore his past and create a path to redemption. At the very least, it would bring more international flavor to theCobra Kaiuniverse after season 6’s Barcelona setting.
It’s likely only a matter of time until the Cobra Kai universe expands with spinoffs.
There are differentCobra Kaispinoff ideas in various stages of development, andRalph Macchio wants to direct Daniel LaRusso’s originto reveal what happened to his father before the events ofThe Karate Kid.Given its global popularity on Netflix, it’s likely only a matter of time until theCobra Kaiuniverse expands with spinoffs. Even if a Sensei Wolf spinoff never materializes, perhaps Feng Xiao could still return in a futureCobra Kaispinoff when it eventually happens.
