While Connie’s support during Mandy’s pregnancy wholly justified their close bond, it didn’t explain whyMandy admired Connie’s illegal, worst-laid plans.

Despite realizing that Connie’s illegal business could lead to her arrest again, Mandy defended helping her out, even whining in response to Georgie’s opposition, claiming he should support her actions like she supported his previous illegal business with Connie.
By emphasizing how against Georgie and Audrey were to Mandy helping Connie,First Marriagehinted at a better feud involving Audrey and Connieinstead of Mary and it revealed more clearly how besotted with Connie’s ambition and attitude Mandy was.Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriageseason 2 could have better explored this Mandy storyline, but Connie’s absence makes it difficult.

How First Marriage Season 2 Can Still Tackle Mandy’s Problem
Audrey steadily becoming Mandy’s loudest supporter inFirst Marriageseason 1 made Mandy’s contempt particularly odd.Mandy’s repeated disregard for Audrey and her inputs is especially noticeable when counterposed with Mandy’s admiration of Connie, something that persisted even after she threatened to drag Mandy down with her if Audrey reported her to the police.
WithMandy’s childishness turning her intoFirst Marriage’s villain, her admiration of Connie for the wrong reasons could have finally brought aboutan exploration of what drives Mandy’s less-explained behaviors. However, without Connie,First Marriageseason 2 makes it incredibly more difficult to do so, as the sitcom would have to introduce the problem in some other way.
First Marriageseason 2 could still use Mandy’s animosity towards Audrey and appreciation for illegal shortcuts by introducing another character.Having Mandy find another woman inspirational because of how much she differs from Audrey could have the same outcome as Connie being that role model, not making thatGeorgie & Mandy’s First Marriagestoryline go to waste in season 2.
