Cupheadand Nintendo seemed like a match made in heaven from the jump. Although the run-and-gun game developed and published by Studio MDHR started out as an Xbox exclusive,Cupheadeventually found its way to the Switchlast year. Since then, Nintendo has continued to cultivate its relationship with Studio MDHR andCuphead. And the most recent example is aCupheadNintendo Switch controller.
PowerA andCupheadhave teamed up to create a gorgeous feature-packed Nintendo Switch controller that is available for pre-order now for $49.99. It will release on June 19, 2025.Cupheadis one of the best hand-drawn video gamesout there, so seeing the design on a controller for the Switch is very neat. But the yellow and orange design is just the start of what makes the controller an interesting buy.

The controller is wireless and uses Bluetooth 5.0. The purchase includes two AA batteries, which apparently give up to 30 hours of gameplay. There are also LED lights to indicate player number and a low battery warning. Perhaps most exciting, the controller allows for mappable buttons, including two on the back for flexible options. In a game likeCuphead,perhaps the jump button can be mapped to the back button for ease of use. In an online game likeRogue Company, the button on the back could be used for rolling. Buttons on the back of the controller, like thebeloved Xbox Elite controller, is becoming a very popular and wanted feature.
This isn’t the first time PowerA has made controllers for Nintendo, as there are plenty of options including thePowerAPokemoncontroller for the Switch. With Nintendo addingCupheadtoSmash Brosas a costume and very much attaching itself to the franchise, thisCupheadcontroller is special, and it could be a great gift just in time for the holidays as well.
