Last year, CD Projekt Red revealed that an “unidentified individual or individuals”gained access to internal files and stole assetsfor the developer’s forthcoming role-playing gameCyberpunk 2077, leading to the organization releasing a statement asking fans to avoid any leaked information should it come about. During CD Projekt Red’s latest meeting of shareholders, company president and joint CEO Adam Kicinski revisited the incident, stating that the stolen assets were held for ransom, which resulted in the studio’s decision to take action.
According to Kicinski, CD Projekt Red refused to capitulate to the thieves' demands and would not pay the ransom by taking an undisclosed course of action instead. While the company’s president and joint CEO didn’t state as much, this likely resulted in theCyberpunk 2077files in question being recovered due to the fact that no assets leaked. The outcome of this ordeal has caused the developer to vow to be more dedicated to security in order to ensure a similar situation doesn’t occur again.
Without a doubt, should the stolen assets have been leaked to the public, it would have cast CD Projekt Red’s marketing plans forCyberpunk 2077in a poor light right from the start, especially since the developer revealed last year that the files taken were old and “largely unrepresentative of the current vision for the game.” Thankfully, though, the developer was able to avoid such a scenario, and has managed to keep practically every detail about the game under wraps.
Although very little is known aboutCyberpunk 2077, fans of CD Projekt Red are holding out hope that the company will unveil something soon, for it has been quite a while since the RPG was initially unveiled to the public. With this being the case, those who have been ardently following the game will be keeping their eyes peeled for details during E3 2018, asa recent rumorhas speculated that CD Projekt Red will be holding a closed doors showing ofCyberpunk 2077to the press at this year’s big event.
Cyberpunk 2077has yet to receive an official release date or platform announcements.
