What Happened In Dandadan Episode 13?

Produced By Science Saru; Directed By Kayona Yamada

Dandadanepisode #13, “Like, This Is the Legend of the Giant Snake”, picked up where season 1 left off, with the Kito family trying to rape Momo in the hot spring. Fortunately, through a combination of Momo’s powers and the sudden appearance of Turbo Granny, who now had supernatural luck in hermaneki-nekobody, Momo fought everyone off and got to watch the Kito family get chased down by the authorities.

After leaving the hot spring, Momo went to a shrine dedicated to the legendary tsuchinoko in the hopes of finding something Okarun would like. Unfortunately, the priest who ran the shrine, Manjiro, said that they only had a snake skin that dumb tourists believed to be from a tsuchinoko, although he did say that the village once had a tradition of sacrificing people to the tsuchinoko to halt volcanic eruptions.

The sight Momo saw after destroying the hot spring

As all that was happening, Okarun and Jiji’s investigation into the mysterious room was halted by the arrival of more members of the Kito family, who were apparently the ones renting out Jiji’s home. The Kitos interrogated Jiji about where he had gone the other day and what he was doing back, and when they figured out he was lying to them, the entire family beat Okarun and Jiji to a pulp.

Momo returned to the house to see Okarun and Jiji beaten up and immediately started fighting the Kitos, herself. Momo did a good job of fighting them until the matriarch, Naki Kito, got involved, and her surprising strength and agility soon proved too much for Momo to handle. Momo was then thrown into the mysterious room, and it was then that Naki revealed that Momo, Okarun, and Jiji would be the latest sacrifices to the tsuchinoko, a practice the Kito family had maintained for 200 years.

Momo nearly escaped with help from Okarun and Jiji, but their struggle still ended with everyone, including the Kitos, getting thrown down into an underground labyrinth of previous sacrificial homes. It was then that the tsuchinoko revealed itself, although Okarun said that its true identity was a cryptid called the Mongolian Death Worm. Regardless, it was still a massive threat, and it proved that by devouring the Kitos in complete ignorance of their deification of it.

With no plan for dealing with the Mongolian Death Worm, Momo, Okarun, and Jiji retreated into one of the houses to rest and think. As they did, though, Momo and Okarun were suddenly bathed in light and started writhing in agony, and before Jiji could try and figure out what was happening,Dandadanepisode #13 ended withOkarun going into his berserk form and attacking Jiji.

How Dandadan Resolved Season 1’s Cliffhanger

One of the biggest takeaways of the season 2 premiere was how perfectly it resolvedDandadanseason 1’s controversial cliffhanger. Not only was it dealt with within the first few minutes, but it was handled in a way that allowed Momo to maintain her agency from start to finish, all while maintaining plenty of levity, as well. It was the perfect way to handle a controversial moment within the story’s tone, and overall, it was great to see.

Dandadan Hasn’t Missed A Step After Its Lengthy Hiatus

What Makes Dandadan Episode 13 So Good

It’s been six months sinceDandadanseason 1ended, and fortunately, that hasn’t affected season 2 in the slightest. Visually speaking, the premiere is already showing off plenty of great action and animation that’s at least on par with season 1, and the new theme songs have somehow far surpassed the original ones in general creativity. That’s saying a lot, considering how great season 1 was, and hopefully, it will stay like that for weeks to come.

Naturally, the story was just as fun, as well. Between how quickly the conflict with the Kito family escalated, the ever-growing mystery of Jiji’s circumstances, and the same great comedy and character writing that made season 1 such a hit, there was plenty of fun to be had with the writing that more than made up for the lengthy wait. Overall,Dandadanseason 2had as great a premiere as a person could hope for, andDandadanepisode #14 will surely be even better.

Be sure to watchDandadanepisode #14 when it releases on Thursday, July 10.
