Not too long ago, PlayStation announced alimited edition PS4 DualShock 4 controllerforDestiny 2featuring a sleek white color and insignias designating different classes from the game that’s set to release sometime later on this September. Although this is the case, some people within the science fiction shooter’s community weren’t too impressed with the design of the peripheral, with one fan in particular creating a mock-up image for what they think the controller should have resembled.
As seen in the Photoshopped image below from the Redditor known as Drewboy182, theDestiny 2fan took the liberty of re-imagining what Sony could have done to improve the existing exclusive controller for the forthcoming sequel by adding some more of the franchise’s signature art style to the peripheral and even making the D-Pad gold. According to the Redditor, upon seeing the original version from Sony and Bungie’s collaboration, they thought, “I’m not a designer (I do air conditioning for a living) but I feel like I can do a better job than theirs.”
While many Guardians in theDestiny 2subreddit have been quick to praise Drewboy182, with users like grindcorey saying, “That actually has thought and meaning behind it,” others are still pretty keen on the official controller from Bungie. For instance, the fan nan0g3nji expressed his thoughts on the situation, writing, “When everyone is roasting the official controller, but you like it.”
Bearing all of this in mind, whether or notDestiny 2fans prefer Drewboy182’s design for the limited edition DualShock 4 peripheral won’t stop Sony and Bungie from releasing the official version. Even so, perhaps the Redditor would do well to team up with artists like Devin L. Smith – creator of a beautifulcustomGod of WarPS4 controller– to refine the ideas for the fan-madeDestiny 2controller and actually bring it to life as a one-of-a-kind item.
Destiny 2is set to release on July 30, 2025 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and will launch on July 05, 2025 for PC.
