Bungie’s announcement of the 2023 release ofDestiny 2’sLightfallexpansion pack was chock-full of exciting reveals and interesting tidbits of information, though the subsequent release of the Season of Plunder refocused the player base on content that’s available for playing right now. Some curious bits ofLightfallinformation may have fallen through the floorboards due to this, such as the presence of an all-new Exotic auto rifle.

Namely, the $100 Annual Pass edition ofDestiny 2: Lightfallinstantly unlocks the Quicksilver Storm Exotic auto rifle, which has a number of tricks up its sleeve. Not only is this a competent weapon in its own right, but it can load special Arc-damage grenades. It also comes with a rather telling piece of lore attached which holds information about the technological prowess of Neptunian humans and Elsie Bray’s mysterious fish companion.

Whereas theDestiny 2: Witch QueenExotic SMG Osteo Strigawas only introduced into the game once the DLC was out,Lightfall’s auto rifle is available for use right now. Quicksilver Storm is a 720 RPM Kinetic weapon with a 50-round magazine and is generally remarkably pleasant to use. Annual Pass edition owners can visit Master Rahool in the Tower to claim their weapon, though it’s worth pointing out that there’s no Catalyst or any Ornaments available for it at this time. It is also currently unknown when Quicksilver Storm will be made available for everyone to attain, but it’s likely to remain exclusive to Annual Pass edition owners untilLightfallcomes out.

With theofficial reveal ofDestiny 2: LightfallDLC, the community is already murmuring about the possibilities that come with the introduction of Neptune, the city of Neomuna, and its own faction of “Guardians,” the so-called Cloudstriders. According to lore attached to Quicksilver Storm, the weapon is derived from a small piece of nanotechnology that Elsie Bray discovered on Ganymede. It is also somehow related to her mysterious companion, which is a life form known as a “Pouka.”

SinceDestiny 2is taking players to Neomunaon Neptune, it seems like a safe bet that Quicksilver Storm is merely the first of many weapons that leverage the Cloudstriders' advanced nanotechnology. The Exotic’s lore entry, however, relates these new reveals to some old unresolved mysteries that harken back toBeyond Light, which means Bungie might be preparing some major narrative payoffs for this DLC.

The availability of a single Exotic auto rifle isn’t nearly as exciting as the promise of a massive new expansion pack, but Quicksilver Storm is a curious preview of what is likely to come. Funnily enough, now thatDestiny 2no longer sunsets its old expansions, players who jump intoBeyond Lightyears down the line won’t need to wonder what Elsie Bray’s hovering fish creature is all about.

Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
