Several days ago, it was confirmed that theInceptionandBatman: BeginsactorKen Watanabewould be joining the cast of Universal Pictures and Legendary Entertainment’s forthcoming movie,Detective Pikachu. Today, the motion picture companies have announced that filming for the first live-action movie based on thePokemonfranchise is now currently underway.
As revealed by Universal Pictures and Legendary Entertainment,Detective Pikachu’s, primary shooting for the movie will be occurring in London, England, so it’s safe to presume that’s where the majority of the film’s cast and crew is right now. Unfortunately, though, the motion picture firms failed to divulge any additional information about what can be expected from the film, leaving fans with the slimmest of notions regarding the actual plot.
All that’s known about theDetective Pikachumovie’s plot thus far is that it is going to be inspired by the Nintendo 3DS game of the same name. That said, though, fans still have no clue how close the film’s narrative will hew to the original story. Speaking of the source material, the 3DS title’sWestern launchis on the horizon, so European and North American fans will soon be able to get a chance to experience the game’s tale for themselves and see why it went on to become so popular in Japan.
While the plot points for theDetective Pikachulive-action film are still somewhat nebulous, there’s still plenty of time in between now andthe movie’s 2019 release datefor Universal Pictures and Legendary Entertainment to let fans in on what the story will contain. Hopefully, for the sake of video game movies' reputation as a whole,Detective Pikachuwill be able to go against the common consensus that video game movies are typically terrible when it comes out next year.
