Road 96was originally released back in 2021 by the creators ofValiant Heartsand11-11:Memories Retoldwith its big selling point that it was a procedurally generated narrative game. The story took place in the mid-90s, as characters hitchhiked across the fictional nation of Petria to escape its authoritarian regime. While the game didn’t always stick the landing, it was generally well received, and was considered a successful experiment in trying something totally new when it comes to storytelling in games.

Now, two years afterRoad 96‘s release, developers Digixart have announced that they’re working on a prequel, which is titledRoad 96: Mile 0and will take place right before the events of the first game. The story will follow two teenagers, Zoe and Kaito (the former is a character players will recognize from the originalRoad 96), and will switch between them as their journey challenges “their friendship and everything they believe in.”
