Disney’sSnow White and the Seven Dwarfsnever got a sequel, but it got a spinoff TV show 11 years ago without the famous princess. Disney is home to some of the most popular, beloved, and successful characters of all time, most notably its Princess. All this was possible thanks toSnow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney’s first feature-length animated movie, as well as the first cel animated feature film and the first animated feature film produced in the United States.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfswas a big critical and commercial success, winning various awards and earning a place in film history. Because of Walt Disney’s plans forSnow Whiteand its legacy, the movie has never gotten a sequel, but its legacy and cultural impact led it to spawn a franchise, with a video game, a musical, a theme park attraction, a live-action remake, and more. However,Snow White and the Seven Dwarfsgot a spinoff TV show 11 years ago, but it was unfortunately a forgettable project.

The 7D Was A Snow White Animated Spinoff TV Show
Disney Brought The Seven Dwarfs To TV
In 2014, theSnow Whitefranchise branched out to TV but without the famous princess. The project was an animated spinoff TV show titledThe 7D, developed by Shea Fontana. The 7Disn’t a continuation ofSnow White and the Seven Dwarfs(but Sneezy’s voice actor once said it’s set many years before Snow White was born (viaBabble)), and, instead, the show is a re-imagining of the dwarfs. The 7Dfollowed Happy, Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Sleepy, and Sneezy, who protected Jollywood from different threats and are the descendants of the dwarves that founded the town.
The dwarfs, known as the 7D, worked together with Jollywood’s quirky Queen Delightful, but when novice witch Hildy Gloom and her warlock husband wanted to take the throne from Delightful, the 7D did their best to help the Queen and keep Jollywood safe. To further separate the show from the movie,The 7Ddoesn’t feature Snow White, which can be explained by it taking place before the events of the movie, which is also why the Evil Queen doesn’t appear. The 7Dpremiered on Disney XD in 2014 and ran for two seasons, with a total of 44 episodes.

Why The 7D Was Canceled After Two Seasons
Unfortunately, The 7D Didn’t Stick Around For Long
The 7Dhad a strong start, ranking high among Disney XD’s animated original shows, but critics had some things to say about it.Many critics found thatThe 7Dlacked the charm ofSnow White and the Seven Dwarfs, that the plot didn’t have a clear target audience, the design of the characters was bland, and that it offered nothing new or interesting, instead just capitalizing on the legacy of the movie. The 7Dwas announced to be over in April 2016, with the final episode airing in November of that year.
It was speculated that Disney had given up on promoting the show and opted for airing reruns in unfavorable time slots.

The 7Ddirector, Tom Warburton, confirmed the end of the show on his website, and an official reason for the cancellation was never given. However, it was believed that the reimagining and modernization of the characters, which wasn’t well-received by critics and general audiences (despite its popularity), along with its disconnection from the movie, led to Disney canceling the show. It was also speculated that Disney had given up on promoting the show and opted for airing reruns in unfavorable time slots, leading to the cancellation of The 7D.
Snow White Has Appeared In 3 Disney TV Shows So Far
And Yet, Snow White Hasn’t Led Her Own TV Show
The 7Dwas all about the dwarfs and their lives separate from Snow White and the movie, but the princess has appeared in three other TV shows, though not always in lead roles.Snow White had cameo appearances in the animated TV showHouse of Mouse, which saw Mickey Mouse and his friends running a theater dinner club, visited by many Disney characters from TV shows and movies.Snow White also appeared in one episode ofSofia the First, a show about a peasant girl who becomes a princess when her mother marries the King of Enchancia.
The most notable TV appearance of Snow White, however, is in the live-action fantasy showOnce Upon a Time. The show followed fairy-tale characters who were transported to the real world by the Evil Queen, and one of the main characters was Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin). It’s unlikely Snow White will ever lead her own animated TV show, but at least the dwarfs got their chance.
