Most of theDragon Ball Zgames of the past have been fighting games, focusing on letting players go one-on-one with their favorites from the anime series. But the action RPG game formerly known by its development nameProject Zhas gotten its official title,Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotand new trailer premiered at the Microsoft E3 2019 press conference. The game looks to be taking fans of the series and players of the game through an action RPG story featuring Goku.
From the trailer that debuted, it looks thatDragon Ball Z: Kakarotwill at least cover from the beginning of theDragon Ball Zseries all the way through the Frieza saga. That’s not to say that the game may cover much more of the anime series, but those reveals will likely come later as the game gets closer to launch.

The trailer starts with a quote from the writer and creator ofDragon Ball Z, Akira Toriyama saying that this game “brings the Dragon Ball universe to life” and promises a “deep dive into the world,” which, if that proves to be true, could be the dreamDragon Ball Zgame that fans have hoped for. While past games in the franchise such asDragon Ball FighterZ have been a success, they tend to be arena fighting games and limited in some ways in that regard as far as having a more open world.
Despite some games likeXenoverse 2adding some MMO elements, they felt added to that same fighting game formula.Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotmay be the first game to really let fans explore the world, putting them in the shoes of Goku, and letting them move around the well-known locations of the series more so than the fighting arenas (no matter how vast some of them have been) of the pastDragon Ball Zgames.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotwill release Early 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
