Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotlaunched yesterday, and players are already looking for more content beyond what the game’s lengthy single-player campaign offers. It doesn’t matter thatDragon Ball Z: Kakarotoffers a story exploring all ofDragon Ball Z’s sagas, from the Saiyan invasion to the fight against Kid Buu. At least, it doesn’t matter when modders are already opening up the opportunity to play the game with a goose or Shaggy fromScooby-Dooinstead of Goku.
It took only a handful of hours afterDragon Ball Z: Kakarotlaunched for modders to start releasing content for the open-world RPG. Virtually all of the mods that have been released so far are model swaps for Goku or the other Z-Fighters. They effectively replaceGokuwith the modded character visually, but don’t change the game in any other meaningful way.

Some mods are complex, likeShaggy, and can perform Goku’s animations. But they still look kind of nightmarish with extra joints and really long fingers, since they’re often quickly-made mods pulled from other games. Others, like the goose fromUntitled Goose Game, are unmoving and are mostly available just for humor. They completely replace the character and do none of their animations. The goose is great for mid-fight screenshots against during battles with Vegeta or Freiza, though.
Shaggy may have been the first mod forDragon Ball Z: Kakarotput out, but the developer that added him has already created another mod that’s even more impressive. Modder Beatz has also released a mod replacing Goku withCJ fromGrand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Maybe it’s just that CJ’s proportions are closer to Goku’s than Shaggy’s, but CJ looks great in the game. He’s able to Kamehameha with the best of them.
Given how odd and funnyDragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s mods are just a day after launch, it’s clear the game has a bright future in the modding community. There’s an opportunity for full-conversion mods likeThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimreceived, or maybe even onlinemultiplayer RPG servers likeGrand Theft Auto 5has. Only time will tell.
