Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Ageis considered to beone of the best RPGs of 2018, earning widespread critical acclaim and selling millions of copies worldwide. NowDragon Quest 11is coming to the Nintendo Switch asDragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age S, and it will be enhanced with some brand new features, including the ability to switch to 16-bit graphics.

The ability to switch betweenDragon Quest 11’s modern HD visuals and 16-bit, SNES-style graphics is an interesting feature for sure, but some may think of it more as a novelty. Those looking for more substance inDragon Quest Quest 11 S, perhaps to give them a reason to pick up the game again, will be happy to know that there are other enhancements as well. This includes new story content, new music, and the option to speed up battles.

Dragon Quest 11 Sis being billed as the “definitive edition” of the game, and it certainly sounds like it will live up to that name. Unfortunately, anyDragon Questfans who are looking forward to the JRPG epic may have to wait awhile, as it’s currently scheduled for release in “late” 2019, and no specific release month has been given at this time.

As previously stated,Dragon Quest 11was one of the top-rated RPGs last year, and so it’s exciting to see it come to the Nintendo Switch. In our ownDragon Quest 11review, we called it an absolute must-play, and it’s going to go a long way in making the Switch’s growing library of games that much more impressive.

The Switch certainly seems to be becoming the go-to platform for JRPGs. BesidesDragon Quest 11, the Nintendo Direct presentation also showcased some other Japanese role-playing games including classics likeFinal Fantasy 7andFinal Fantasy 9. Newer JRPGs were also highlighted, likeOninaki, for instance.

BetweenOninaki, the classicFinal Fantasyre-releases, andDragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age S, 2019 is shaping up to be a banner year for JRPG fans on the Switch.
