Donkey Kong Bananzais finally out, and with it comes copious amounts of costumes. There are costumes to buy for every major layer (world) in the game, and you need to do a little collectible legwork to actually afford them. Since costumes are not governed by gold, you’ll be required to pick up fossils, which are the currency of choice for outfit vendors.
While costumesaren’t required to enjoy the game, you can deck out DK and Pauline alike in the digs you want, adding a little more flair to gameplay and even cutscenes, which retain your style. Likemany other aspects ofDonkey Kong Bananza,it’s a nice system, because fossil huntinginherently requires exploration, and you can ignore this element of the game entirely if that’s not your thing.

17How To Get Costumes In Donkey Kong Bananza
You’ll Need To Buy Them At The Style Shop
In order to earn costumes inDonkey Kong Bananza, you will need to purchase them at the Style Shop. Each layer has at least one of them, and Style Shops are denoted by their “pink shirt with a blue tie” icon. You can find this icon both on the map of each layer and on the shops themselves (or in some cases, the actual NPC will be a crystal that bears the same shape as the icon).
To actually buy costumes, they require fossils. Fossils are collectibles strewn about the game in each layer, and consist of three levels of rarity (fossil, rare fossil, extra-rare fossil). Think of these as “costume currency.” you may pick up fossils by finding them in the wild or by purchasing maps in the general store to locate them. Note that every layer has unique fossils, so you generally can’t mix and match currencies.

16Every Costume In SL 100 - Lagoon Layer
Your First One-Stop Shop
The Lagoon Layer Style Shop is your first stop on your journey to collect every DK and Pauline costume. It hosts outfits that will increase the swimming speed of DK, as well as locate more treasure chests. As always, DK can equip new skin colors, too. Like most shops, it’s located directly in front of the Warp Gong, hosted by monkeys.
15Every Costume In SL 200 - Hilltop Layer
More Skins For DK
The Hilltop Layer is a bit less exciting,as it only contains skins for DK. These don’t functionally change up the game, but will showcase DK in both gameplay and non-playable cutscenes. This shop is right near the Warp Gong in the small village.
14Every Costume In SL 300 - Canyon Layer
It’s Back To The Old West
It’s back to business in the western-themed Canyon layer, which features duds for both DK and Pauline. This time, several of the bonuses increase DK’s speed in mud and fresh snow, which can come in handy in this very zone, and in later levels.
Pauline’s outfits also extend Donkey Kong’s Bananza time (think super mode/Devil Trigger fromDevil May Cry). This shop is in a small hillside town in a hut, near the Warp Gong.
13Every Costume In SL 400 - The Divide
There’s Nothing Here For Outfit Enthusiasts
Sadly, The Divide doesn’t have any costumesfor DK and Pauline to collect. Think of this area as a gateway to two other layers, rather than a massive layer in and of itself. There is, however, a “Stuff Shop” which you may patronize for power-ups and items. That shop can be located right near the Warp Gong.
12Every Costume In SL 500 - Freezer Layer
Get Warm With Some New Outfits
Are you seeing a pattern here? Most zones will offer you items that buff you in that particular area, and the Freezer Layer is no exception.Items here reduce damage from ice water, and buff your Zebra Bananza form, which you’ll pick up in this region.
11Every Costume In SL 600 - Forest Layer
Grab Some Poison Protection
The sorta-cozy sorta-terrifying Forest Layer will have outfits that protect you from poison, and buff your Ostrich Bananza form. This shop is located right next to the Warp Gong on the right, in a blue hut, and is hosted by an Ostrich.
10Every Costume In SL 700 - The Junction
Another Area With No Items
Just like The Divide,The Junction is another layer that doesn’t contain any items. In fact, there isn’t even a shop of any kind here. You’ll just spend your time in The Junction moving from layer to layer.
9Every Costume In SL 800 - Resort Layer
More DK Outfits
With a name like the “Resort Layer” you’d expect a collective of shops and tons of partying, but sadly, only DK is invited. The Resort Layer contains several skin colors for DK, and that’s it. The shop is located directly next to the Warp Gong.
8Every Costume In SL 900 - Tempest Layer
This Creepy Layer Has Lots Of Outfits
The Tempest Layer might seem scary at first, but it has a town like many of the other zones, and includes a Style Shop. These bonuses tend to favor reduced lava damageand more elephant Bananza form time. The shop in the Tempest Layer is located right in front of you after the Warp Gong, hosted by an elephant NPC.
