For years, fans ofFallout New Vegashave been clamoring for a remake or remaster of the well-loved post-apocalyptic first-person RPG developed byObsidian Entertainment. The game, released in 2010, could probably benefit from a current gen visual upgrade.
A modder named Kuzja80 has given players the next best thing for the game: an upscaled HD texture pack. The 16-gig release promises to make the quality of almost all ofFallout New Vegas’original textures four times better by improving alpha channels, upscaling normal maps, and providing seamless textures.

It’s important to note that thisHD texture packmodifies only the textures inFallout New Vegas, meaning it offers no changes to lighting or other graphical effects in the game. Kuzja80 has also specified that he ignored all textures in the game’s interface folder and any textures that were smaller than 64x64. And because the mod upscalesFalloutNew Vegas’original textures, many of which are low res and poorly detailed, the upscaled versions might not all seem greatly improved.
Released two years after Bethesda’sFallout 3,Fallout New Vegasis considered by some to be thebest title in theFalloutseriesso far, partly because it was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, whose dev team included former Interplay employees and people who worked on the originalFalloutgames. Unfortunately for those fans, Bethesda seems determined to keep the franchise and future games under its own control. So despite developers at Obsidian stating in the past that they would love to make anotherFalloutgame, it likely won’t happen.
Fallout New Vegaswas released in 2010 and is available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
