Ubisoft’s latest iteration in theFar Cryseries,Far Cry 6,has received new trailers recently, giving insight into the game’s main playable character, Dani Rojas, as well as Anton Castillo, the title’s antagonist. With Ubisoft suggesting thatFar Cry 6has the largest map of any game in the series, many have been speculating about its features, and a Reddit user’s post has helped to clarify the island’s size and geography.
Fans of theFar Cryfranchise have been wondering about the details of the newest title’s map since the game was announced, with Ubisoft’s own description of the map being “the largestFar Cryplayground to date.“Far Cry 6takes place on Yara, a tropical island that is under the oppressive rule of the dictator Anton Castillo, who intends to have his son, Diego, continue his legacy. Players take on the role of Dani Rojas, a freedom-fighting guerrilla who wants to liberate Yara from Castillo’s government.

Redditor user guccitorial_gangulas, posted a screenshot ofFar Cry 6’smap, showing its full size and layout. While there are other images of the map in thenewFar Cry 6trailers, they either don’t show Yara in its entirety, or they are too blurry to discern its details. The map itself is mostly made up of one large island, with another smaller island located off Yara’s south western coastline, with many speculating that this smaller island could be where the tutorial takes place, or where the final boss encounter occurs, as inFar Cry 3.
The image of Yara posted by guccitorial_gangulas matches up with other pictures ofFar Cry 6’smap shown so far, with a real-life map of Yara being visible on the wall behind Narrative Director, Navid Khavari, duringUbisoft’s worldwide reveal trailer forFar Cry 6. The map appears to be zoned into different areas, perhaps denoting the various jungles, beaches, and other biomes described by Ubisoft, with maps from the teaser trailer showing notable locations, such as a lighthouse, a potential airport, and a number of other buildings across the island.
Although it is difficult to discern the exact size of the map from the images that are available, Ubisoft have confirmed that it will be the largestFar Crymap to-date, and contain the most varied biomes of the series. While a game’s map-size doesn’t necessarily dictate its quality, this kind of variety and scale is something that the gamewill surely benefit from, withFar Cry 6’slarge array of weaponsand combat options helping to keep the game fresh as well.
Far Cry 6launches on October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
