Today, the video game developer Epic Games and the toy manufacturer Hasbro announced a partnership to bring the wildly popular multiplayer sandbox shooterFortniteinto the board game world by revealingaMonopolyversion of the title. Now, the companies have also decided to unveil that officially licensed Nerf blasters based on the weapons in the game will make their way into the marketplace starting in the spring of 2019.
According to Hasbro, the new Nerf items “will immerse fans into the player-versus-player action of the game, letting them play out the Battle Royale in real-world settings with blasters and accessories that emulate the onscreen battlesFortniteis known for.” Unfortunately, though, neither Hasbro nor Epic provided details about which weapons from the game will go on to get their own Nerf replicas.
As manyFortnitefans will attest, the free-to-play Battle Royale portion of the game has a slew of different firearms that Hasbro could use as inspiration for its forthcoming Nerf blasters. From short range weaponry like the pump-action shotgun to long distance wares like theheavy sniper rifle,Fortnitehas most bases covered when it comes to armaments in combat. Of course, Epic and Hasbro could also potentially use the partnership to collaborate on designing a new gun for debut it in-game and in the real world once the Nerf line launches next year.
All things considered, it will be interesting to see exactly what kind of Nerf blasters make the cut, especially sinceFortnitedoesn’t actually have too many signature weapons all its own save for the likes of the Boogie Bomb. So, while the partnership certainly makes sense from a business perspective, we will have to wait and see if gaming fans will be as enticed forFortniteNerf blasters as they were forNerf’sOverwatch-themed guns.
