WithForza Horizon’s 92 average, it’s not only the highest-rated game of 2021 so far, but it’s also notable for being the only game this year to surpass a 90 average rating. Many other 2021 games have gotten close, likeDeathloop,Psychonauts 2, andRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and while they all earned respectably high review scores, none of them have managed to reach 90.

The closest game toForza Horizon 5at the time of this writing is the Nintendo Switch exclusiveSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. And whileBowser’s Furyis a new experience,Super Mario 3D Worldis otherwise a re-release. TheSuper Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Furyreviewswere highly positive when the game released earlier this year, earning it an overall 89 rating. Not quite enough to rack 90 likeForza Horizon 5did, but still impressive.
