Foundationseason 3’s trailer looks outstanding, but I’m worried about one great storyline that’s almost entirely absent from it. WhileFoundationseason 1 had its bumps, season 2 was an exceptional follow-up, with the penultimate episode, “Long Ago, Not Far Away,” achieving a series high IMDb score with a 9.2/10 rating. Despite behind-the-scenes production team changes and a decreased budget,Foundationseason 3looks gorgeous, action-packed, and filled with intense, dramatic moments I honestly can’t wait for.
Apple TV+’sFoundationis based on the book seriesof the same name by prolific science fiction author Isaac Asimov. A significant portion of the series is written originally for the show, including much of the content surrounding Lee Pace’s Brother Day and the rest of Empire, with the emperor being a distant, vague figure in Asimov’s books. However, season 3’s antagonist, The Mule, likely means thatthe story will draw from the back half ofFoundation and Empire, Asimov’s second novel in the series.

Foundation Season 3 Needs To Follow Up On Its Best Season 2 Episode
Demerzel Needs A More Prominent Role In Foundation Season 3
ActressLaura Birn, who plays Demerzel, stole the show inFoundationseason 2 with the episode “Long Ago, Not Far Away,“with more of her character’s spectacular backstory and curious motivations revealed. While the vast imagination of Isaac Asimov offers a wealth of material for future seasons to explore, this is the show’s best work so far, and it needs to remain prominent. One opportunity could be to connect Demerzel’s story to theRobotnovels. Elements from Isaac Asimov’sRobotseries are also fused intoFoundation, since they’re technically part of the same book universe.
In theFoundationandRobotnovels, Eto Demerzel is one of the multiple aliases of a robot named R. Daneel Olivaw, who first appeared in the bookThe Caves of Steel. In the books, Olivaw interacts with Seldon early on in his days on Trantor and convinces Hari that he must pursue psychohistory. While it seems that much of this backstory instead went to Kalle in the show, season 2 also hinted that Hari and Demerzel have met before, and that Demerzel’s role in the grand scheme of events is even larger than season 2 made it seem.

Demerzel Is Barely In Foundation Season 3’s Trailer
Are They Hiding Demerzel For A Reason?
Despite being so fantastic in season 2 and with the indication of her grand importance, Demerzel is barely featured inFoundation’sseason 3 trailer. This could be strategic from the showrunners in an effort to hide any major spoilers for her character. I hope, however, that it’s not actually indicative of her having a decreased role.Foundationis balancing a number of characters, including the more prominent role of the Mule, butit would be a serious mistake not to increase Laura Birn’s screen time after her success in season 2.
One Moment From The Trailer Indicates A Major Role For Demerzel
Demerzel Might Still Be Season 3’s Most Important Character
A line inFoundationseason 3’s trailer has Lee Pace’s Brother Day character exclaiming, “Everything is going to end, and she’s the only one who can stop it.” It seems safe to theorize he’s referring to Demerzel. With the stakes increasing and Empire seemingly suffering by this point in time, the degree of importance Demerzel was shown to have in season 2 is only going to be more prominent. She may have been hidden in the trailer to avoid spoilers about her increased role.

Brother Day’s beard and shabbier look indicate his power and influence have declined, which could mean Demerzel has taken controlin some capacity. By season 2’s ending, Trantor had no fleet, and the bookFoundation and Earthsees Empire suffering, which allows the Mule to seize more power and control. Season 3 could showFoundationin its darkest day yet, with Brother Day and Demerzel seeming more like protagonists when faced against a monstrous new threat.
