GameStop is auctioning off the now-infamous stapler that played a part in damaging at least one Nintendo Switch 2 console. In case you missed it, the internet was ablaze on the week of theNintendo Switch 2launch back in June when one GameStopstapled the screen of a Switch 2 consolethrough the box. The situation was especially bleak at the time, because folks weren’t sure how readily the Switch 2 would actually be restocked, following tons of pre-order snafus.

Thankfully, the situation was resolved by GameStop itself, which responded to the mishap in short order and replaced the consoles for fans. Now, they’re back for another follow-up with the aforementioned auction. This time the mishap directly benefits a charity, and puts a nice bow on the debacle, which still feels like a fever dream given how many people were talking about it.

GameStop Is Auctioning Off The Infamous Switch 2 Stapler For Charity

To Benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

According to the company itself,GameStop is now auctioning off the infamous item, withthe proceeds directly benefitingChildren’s Miracle Network Hospitals. It’s a great cause, and a perfect example of a silver lining - how something so unusual can end up as a net positive. The auction is currently taking place on eBay, where the stapler has surpassed the $10,000 mark at the time of publication.

According to the listing, this is billed as the “Staplegate Charity Auction,” and includes multiple items. You’re not just getting the stapler here, you’re also getting the entire story all in one “simple” listing, including the stapled Switch 2. I’m using quotes here because the auction is currently going for over $10,000, and has skyrocketed in price since the original unveiling. Here is everything you can expect if you win:

GameStop’s listing concludes with the phrase: “While the incident itself was unfortunate, we hope its legacy serves a greater purpose.” Indeed!Whoever was responsible for making this happenand giving everything to a good cause is brightening my week.

Our Take: It’s Funny Move & For A Good Cause

The Event May Have Been Overblown, But it Ended Well

While this could have gone much differently, everyone seems to have come out on top in this instance. Many companies have opted to auction off oddball items like this, but not every organization gives the proceeds to charity.Plus, the actual stapled Switch 2 will now have a home, rather than being tossed in the garbage somewhere. It’ll be much better served as a collectible piece of gaming history than a landfill item.

As we wait for more Switch 2 exclusives to arrive, we have tons ofSwitch 2-related hardware stories to enjoy collectively.Whether it’s a good old-fashioned brick-and-mortar pre-order tale or thousands of dollars benefiting charity, the Switch 2 has been a media frenzy of sorts, which has translated into five million-plus hardware sales for Nintendo. Not bad for a console that’s just getting started.
