Fans of mods andStarfieldshould think about getting back into the game, as one of thebest mods for the titleis getting a sequel, developed by the original modder. The expansion mod is called theForgotten Frontiers, and it’s a Point of Interest expansion mod that introduces new, detailed dungeons and locations for exploration and added environmental storytelling. The mod is a part of the Creation Kit set of mods, supported in-game by Bethesda. While it isn’t free, the mod is impressive, and the sequel is even bigger.

The original mod was created byMadMonkey119, and the user recently took to Reddit asMadMonkeyModstoannounce a sequel calledForgotten Frontiers 2. The sequel will also cost 500 CC, just like the first one. The creator is promising even bigger dungeons and new features, along with gameplay options to customize spawn rates of the new dungeons. MadMonkey119 says that they stuck to their guns when designing a sequel, writing:“I’ve stuck with the philosophies that guided me in the first expansion, making sure each location feels unique and is approachable with all kinds of different tactics.”

And The Sequel Is Aiming Even Higher

DespiteStarfieldbeing the latest big IP from Bethesda, the game struggled to find its audience past its initial releasein 2023, and themodding scene has been desolateever since.Forgotten Frontiersremains one of the best expansion mods for the game. Our Take: Starfield Is In A Crisis

Passionate Fans Are Keeping The Game Alive

Starfieldseemed to come and go in 2023without leaving much of a lasting impression. The game released with good reviews overall, but the fan response was more mixed, with several fans criticizing the outdated feel of the modern Bethesda game, the load screens, and the lack of meaningful exploration. The game has beenrumored to be coming to PlayStation 5for a while, but there has been no confirmation of that yet. The paid DLC expansion,Shattered Space, saw a moremixed-to-negative response, and the game has seemingly been on life support since.

It’s passionate fans like MadMonkey19 that are keeping the game alive right now. A second official expansion is coming at some point, but it seems like it will need to be quite different fromShatter Spaceto hit with the currentStarfieldaudience and get new players interested. Until then, there are a lot of fan mods forStarfield, and a sequel to one of the better ones coming should still be exciting for the game’s community.
