PlayStation Plus is PlayStation’s paid subscription service, similar in nature to Xbox Live Gold. After roughly ten years of only having one subscription option, Sony introduced multiple tiers to PlayStation Plus, each at different price points and with their own benefits. PlayStation Plus Premium is the highest tier and includes all the benefits from other tiers as well as access to a catalog of classic games, cloud gaming, andfree trials to games such asThe Last of Us Part 1.

Gotham Knights' inclusion in PlayStation Plus Premium has opened to door for new fans to give the game a try, but only if they own a PS5 as the game did not get a cross-generation release. This controversial move was amplified in the lead-up to the game’s release when the news broke thatGotham Knightshad no performance modeoption and would be capped at 30 frames per second. Console players were let down once more when it was further revealed that other graphical options like ray tracing would only be available on PC.
Despite all these shortcomings and its lukewarm critical reception,Gotham Knightssold well upon release and was able to maintain a player base during its launch month. It may not have reached the heights of smash-hit superhero games such asMarvel’s Spider-Man, but it shows that there is still an active audience for these games. This does not necessarily mean that every game in this style will be successful, as was seen withMarvel’s Avengers. However, the continued output of these games makes it more likely that over time, there can be another major triumph for superhero games. While the recentleaks ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguehave some fans concerned, it is best to wait and see what this and other titles have to offer.
Gotham Knights is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
