It has been nearly four years since the release ofHalo: The Master Chief Collection, and343 Industriescontinues its hard work to deliver post-launch updates for the compendium well after it went live on day one. Just recently, the developer’s Community Manager known as Brian “ske7ch” Jarrard provided the latest update for a patch to the first-person shooter collection, and managed to sneak in a fun littleDestinyreference in the notes.
As found in the the fifthHalo: The Master Chief Collectiondevelopment update blog, ske7ch mentions how he spent a good deal of time addressing the loading issues inHalo 1that particularly cropped up around co-op situations, and explained how he fixed the bug. In the process, the developer is able to give a shout out to the originalDestinyby having added a sentence that reads, “Remember thatHalo 1co-op loading bug I mentioned earlier, then I said I fixed it? Heh, didn’t work. So, the Centurion Bond Broth-errrrr, wrong franchise…”.

For the uninitiated, the above quote is a variation of one fromCayde-6inDestiny’s The Taken King, with the original dialogue from the Hunter Vanguard talking about the task Guardians are faced with in the expansion’s Shield Brothers Strike. The original Cayde-6 quote that theHalodev is referencing reads, “Remember that Centurion Oryx took right after you landed on the Dreadnaught? Then the Centurion and that Taken Ogre tried to stop you from killing the King? Heh. Didn’t work. So the Centurion’s bond-brothers are pretty angry they lost their commander.”
Taking all of this into consideration, it’s always nice to see developers allude to other franchises in their work, as it often shows how much of a fan they are of a fellow creator’s efforts, and theDestinynod from 343 Industries' Community Manager ske7ch is definitely a fun one. So, perhaps we will eventually see some Easter eggs referencing Bungie’s action-RPG in the forthcomingHalo: Infiniteat some point down the line.
