Summary
It’s always a treat to fighta well-designed bossin a video game, even if the challenge is pretty high in some cases. These climactic encounters force players to push themselves to their very limits and make for a great time, encouraging those brave enough to use everything they’ve learned to show these foes who’s the real boss. It’s rare enough to find mandatory story bosses that are all designed with great finesse, so it’s easy to see why players would be more than willing to check out optional bosses that feature the same level of excellence in design.
In fact, someoptional boss fights in video games are so toughthat players are actively encouraged to accomplish everything in the game before even thinking of dealing with them. Players must ensure that they have the best skills, abilities, equipment, and everything else along the same lines before even thinking of tackling these seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Given how players were tasked with beating every Valkyrie in the game before taking on the Queen in 2018’sGod of War, it’s easy to see why the same holds true for the sequel, even if the nature of the foes themselves is different. In these encounters, players must take onseveral powerful Berserkerswho boast unique abilities of their own before tackling the toughest of them all, King Hrolf Kraki.
As one would expect, the Berserker King is no joke and boasts the abilities of every Berserker that the player has encountered thus far. It’s a sizeable challenge, and players must be near-flawless in their run to avoid unnecessary damage and maintain a consistent level of offense to use their abilities, Runic attacks, and combos regularly to stand a chance against this powerful boss. It may take a few runs to succeed, but players who manage to push themselves to the very limit and beat this boss can rest assured that they’ve defeated one of the toughest bosses in the game, with Gna being the only other optional boss that holds a candle to this foe in terms of difficulty.

ThePersonagames are known for featuring some tough superbosses who can be a pain to deal with, andPersona 5is no exception to this golden rule. Caroline and Justine made for the toughest boss fight in the original game, andRoyaldecided to take things one step further by adding Lavenza as another superboss who’s ridiculously challenging.
The path to unlock this boss fight is pretty lengthy as is, with players having to initiate New Game+ and reach the point where the twins fuse beforeLavenza can be fought. Given how longPersona 5is, it’s easy to see why this can be a chore in itself, even if players skip cutscenes. The reward for going through this grueling ordeal is a fight where players must land certain attacks across the boss' many phases if they don’t want to be obliterated by her powerful attacks.

Final Fantasy 9is considered by many to be one of the best games in the entire series and for good reason. It serves as an homage to the past of the series during a time when the series had distanced itself from itsmedieval high fantasy roots. As one would expect, this title is full to the brim with optional content, including two superbosses that are pretty challenging. Ozma is easily the hardest one by a country mile, and players must make enough progress in the Chocobo Hot & Cold side quest to gain access to the floating island that houses this foe.
However, that’s not all players should do. Ozma is incredibly hard to defeat without completingthe Friendly Monsters side questto make physical attacks reach him while also making him weak to the Shadow element. Even after all this, Ozma is ridiculously challenging and mandates a near-perfect party setup for players to stand a chance against this challenging foe. If players are unable to beat this boss after spending hours unlocking and preparing for it, then it’s bound to be quite irritating indeed.

Yakuza 0is the perfect jumping-in point for the series and is single-handedly responsible for compelling a new batch ofYakuzafans to understand what makes this franchise so special. The game’s balance between serious and silly aspects can be seen in the wealth of hilarious substories that have become legendary in their own right, coupled with an amazing plot that thrusts both Kiryu and Majima into a battle over who owns the rights to the Empty Lot.
Players who complete every substory in the game (which is extremely time-consuming for obvious reasons) will get a message from the Amon family. Majima will face off against Jo Amon, while Kiryu will engage in battle with So Amon. Both fights make for the toughest challenges for each character, and players should make it a point to upgrade everything to kingdom come and come loaded with restoratives to emerge victorious after these tough encounters.

Final Fantasyhas a history of featuring tough-as-nails superbosses that can be ridiculously challenging to fight against, so it says something that many people considerFinal Fantasy 10to have the toughest superbosses in the entire series. Withoutthe Ultimate Weaponsand maxed-out Sphere Grids, it’s almost impossible to beat the toughest foe in the entire game, Penance.
Even before players can challenge this foe, they must take out the Dark Aeons first, each of which is pretty challenging in their own right but can still be dealt with as long as players have the patience to spare. Following this lengthy process, players must sttel themselves for anencounter against Penance, a foe that requires near-perfect commands and a sound strategy to defeat, even if every party member is as powerful as can be.
