NieR: Automatais a decent size in terms of the explorable world. There are the City Ruins, the Desert Zone, the Amusement Park, the Abandoned Factory, the Forest Zone, and various settlements such as the Machine Village and the Resistance Camp.
The game also features many side quests that can send the player fromone end of the map to the other, and walking would make the game take much longer. To counteract this, players canfast travel inNieR: Automata, but figuring out how to do so can be a little challenging.

Updated July 20, 2025, by Michael Llewellyn:NieR: Automata doesn’t follow conventional rules when it comes to JRPGs or exploration. Thankfully, some quality-of-life features, like the ability to fast travel, can be unlocked by playing the main story. However, it takes several hours of gameplay before this mechanic becomes available for players to use. For those who wish to gain access to this feature sooner than NieR: Automata allows, there is also a chapter unlock cheat that will allow players to use fast travel earlier.
How To Unlock Fast Travel In NieR: Automata
Unlocking fast travel requires playing throughChapter FiveofNieR: Automata. It should come up organically by followingthe game’s main story. Following the main story, the player should end up in an underground city where they will fight a Goliath boss. After defeating this foe, players can exit the area, and this time, an NPC namedJackasscan be found at the entrance. She will offer a transporter component to 2B.
After speaking with her and acquiring the transporter component, fast travel will become available. However, the fast travel mechanic inNieR: Automatahas its limitations. The player can only fast travel viaAccess Points. Only the Bunker and Resistance Camp offer travel points at this point of the story, but players will find and unlock more throughout the world by interacting with them to make them available.

How To Use Fast Travel In NieR: Automata
There are Access Points spread all around the world ofNieR: Automata. In total, there are 18 of them, with usually more than one found in large areas. For example, the Factory has three Access Points, and the Desert Zone has four. To use an Access Point, players must interact with it andselect “Transport.“From there, a menu that lists different locations will pop up. Here, players can select and open the location to show the available Access Points that are there.
It’s important to remember that the only Access Points that will appear in the Transport menu are those that have been visited before. This means that fast travel only allows players to revisit places they’ve already been to. This is still very useful for future side quests and especially helpful for players hoping to platinum the game andfind all the weaponsavailable.

How To Unlock Chapter 5 Early In NieR: Automata
The transporter will become available in Chapter 5, but thanks to a secret discovered by a modder namedLance McDonald, players can unlock all the chapters as early asNieR: Automata’s Prologue. The cheat code was confirmed as being the “final secret” byNieRcreatorYoko Toro on X.
