Mirror Mode inMario Karthas always been a staple feature for those looking to challenge themselves in new ways, and that is still the case inMario Kart World. Once you’ve conquered the Grand Prix and Knockout Tour Rallies in 150cc, Mirror Mode is the next best way to truly test your skills out on familiar tracks where memorization won’t help you this time.

For those that don’t know,Mirror Mode is exactly what it sounds like, a mirrored version of the tracksyou’ve already been playing. Since a large part of topping out in these races comes from mastering the tracks, this creates a new challenge in which everything you know is backwards, forcing you to adapt under chaotic conditions. That being said, since itsintended purpose is to provide a new difficulty for experienced players, you’ll need to unlock it before you can play it.

All Requirements For Unlocking Mirror Mode

Conquer Mario Kart World To Unlock This Unique Challenge

Given thatMario Karthas never had an open-world style format beforeMario Kart World, the requirements for unlocking Mirror Mode have always been relatively straightforward. They typically just includeearning a trophy for every Grand Prix cup, specifically in 150cc mode. This is largely because Mirror Mode is there to provide a new and refreshing change for those who already know the tracks and have developed muscle memory for turns, shortcuts, and other aspects of the course.

As for needing tocomplete everything in 150cc, that is simply becauseMirror Mode is, as always, only available in 150cc.So, if you’ve only mastered 50cc or 100cc, then you’d likely struggle far beyond what’s intended for this mode. For these aforementioned reasons, both of these things are still part of the requirements for unlocking thisunique mode inMario Kart Worldand likely always will be. However, there are also some additional requirements now, alongside those, to account for the other new features exclusive toMKW.

To unlockMario Kart World’s Mirror Mode difficulty, you will need to complete the following:

Notes

Complete All 7 Grand Prix Cup Races On 150cc

You do not need to come in first place, butyou do need to get a trophy (whether it’s bronze, silver, or gold). Additionally,it must be on 150cc. The requirement will not be complete if playing on 50cc or 100cc.

Complete All 8 Knockout Tour Rallies On 150cc

Same conditions as the Grand Prix. You do not need to come in first, but you do need to complete the race, which means that youcannot be knocked out before the last round.Additionally, it must also be done at 150cc difficulty.

Collect 10 of the Peach Medallions in Free Roam

Complete 10 P-Switch Missions

Complete at least 10 P-Switch Missions in Free Roam (many believe 20 or 40 to be the minimum requirement, butMirror Mode has been unlocked by players with only 10, so this is not the case)

Find 10 ? Panels

Find and activate 10 ? Panels in Free Roam

Once you’ve completed all of the above requirements, you will need to complete the Special Cup in Grand Prix on 150cc, after which you will receive a cutscene unlocking Mirror Mode. If you’ve already completed the Special Cup, you will need to re-complete it after meeting the requirements, so it’s best just to wait so you don’t have to re-do the race a second time.

If you believe you’ve completed all the above requirements, check through and ensure all the races have been done at 150cc, as this seems to be a common mistake players find where one of the cups was accidentally completed at 50cc or 100cc.

With no formal explanation in-game of exactly what is required for Mirror Mode to unlock, these requirements have been formulated based on player experience and comparison. This means that there is a chance that there are some additional unknown requirements or that Mirror Mode unlocks based on a cumulative evaluation of a player’s experience. However, based on how Mirror Mode has been unlocked by theMario Kart Worldcommunity, these are believed to be the minimum requirements.

If you find Mirror Mode still does not unlock after verifying the above requirements and completing the Special Cup again, continue completing other aspects of the game and collecting items in Free Roam, as some believe there may be a hidden time-spent requirement in Free Roam as well.

How To Complete Free Roam Mirror Mode Requirements

Mirror Mode Isn’t Exclusive To Races In Mario Kart World

As a fun way to celebrateMario Kart World’s open world, Mirror Mode is not only a feature for the actual races in the game, but also for Free Roam. Thankfully, activating it isn’t quite as difficult to figure out as Mirror Mode for the races is, nor does it require any real additional effort. If you want to unlock Mirror Mode for Free Roam, then all you need to do is unlock Mirror Mode in general.

While that does, unfortunately, mean that all the previously mentioned requirements have to be met, it at least means that you don’t need to do a ton of additional work.Once you have Mirror Mode unlocked, head to Peach Stadiumwhile inMario Kart World’s Free Roammode and continue along the track until you reach the warp tunnel. Drive up along the right side of the tunnel and onto the castle roof, and then keep going until you are in front of thestained-glass window of Princess Peach that was shown in the Mirror Mode cutscene.

Mirror Mode will not remain active upon re-launching the game, so if you close out of the game while in Free Roam’s Mirror Mode, it will restart as normal and need to be reactivated through the stained-glass window again. Similarly, if you wish to turn it off without closing the game, simplyhead back through the stained-glass window of Peach to reverse it.

From here, all you need to do is revisit the days ofMario 64anddrive right on through the Peach window, which will have that nostalgic water-like moment of impact before spitting you back out. When you reemerge from the stained-glass window, which is now flipped, you will be in Mirror Mode. Once you’ve done that, you are now in Free Roam’s Mirror Mode and can continue to enjoy the entirety ofMario Kart World, now flipped.
