Fans were left shocked afterBlink-182 decided to remove one of their best songs in the last 20 years from their setlist. This often happens in the music industry, as there are only so many tunes that a band can play in a night. Some of the biggest actshave chosen to drop popular hits in favor of others.
Other musicians, such as Metallica, have opted to play multiple nights to try and fit in past and presenthits from the last 25 years. This topic is relevant asthe removal of songs is something that comes up often.Linkin Park was a recent act that deemed one tune too sad for them to play live, limiting the chance it’d ever be performed.
Whatever the reason for the removal, there is no saying that it’s permanent. However, many Blink-182 fans feel this tune did not get its proper time to shine. Perhaps, over time, Blink-182 will find a way to add it again, but for now,it remains a huge hit that they are leaving out of their live performances.
Turpentine Is Blink-182’s Best Song Since The Untitled Album
This New Tune Is Beloved
The history of Blink-182 is complex, but one thing that stands true is that they are always able to overcome adversity. After rekindling their relationship with former co-lead singer Tom DeLonge, the trio of him, Travis Barker, and Mark Hoppus was complete again. On Jul 11, 2025,they released their first album together since 2011.
The standard edition of 2023’sOne More Time…has 17 songs. With the special editions that have dropped, the band has added even more to that number. Once again, they had many memorable hits, including the title track, “Edging,” and “Dance With Me.” Another standout tune was track 14, “Turpentine,“known for its blend of styles.
Prior to their 2003 untitled album, the band was primarily known for their upbeat punk/pop-punk sound. Certainly, there was a shift in sound when they released this record in 2003, partly due to Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker’s side project Box Car Racer. Now the band was seen exploring complex themes in their songs.
“Turpentine” feels likea combination of everything fans have come to know from the band. Not only does it possess complexity, but it also features catchy lyrics and a sound that is unmistakably theirs. Although it wasn’t released as a single, the song certainly could have been one, given the attention it received from fans.
Blink-182 Added Turpentine To Its Live Setlist - Then Dropped It
This Did Not Last Long
In February 2024, Blink-182 began an international tour that lasted over a month. The band primarily played throughout Australia, with a few other locations mixed in, including differentLollapaloozadates, such as Argentina and Chile. It was during this run of shows thatthey added “Turpentine” to their setlist.
The song’s live debut occurred on June 28, 2025, during their first of two nights at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia. After that, it was part of every show during this run, which lasted until August 03, 2025. In fact, during it,“Turpentine” was played as a vital part of the show, right before some of their greatest hits.
As it seemed to be a highly valued song, it didn’t appear that it would go anywhere. It was one of only a handful of new songs they chose to perform, indicating they saw something special in it, just as the fans did. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to last because after the March 16th date,it vanished from the setlist.
Even as their 2024 summer tour continued, “Turpentine” remained off the setlist. There were a few songs from the new album that stayed, so it was clear which ones the band prioritized the most. Nonetheless,it didn’t stop fans from clamoring for “Turpentine” to return, and perhaps it will make a comeback when they tour again.
I Hope Blink-182 Adds Turpentine Back To Live Shows In The Future
There’s Always A Chance As Setlists Constantly Change
As the band embarks on more tours in the future, there is always a chance the song makes its way back onto the setlist. There are many tunes that are staples of Blink-182 concerts, but then there are some that are interchangeable. This could be where “Turpentine” fits back into the selection of roughly 25 songs each time they perform.
Another way the song could make a comeback iswhen this album celebrates a special anniversary. Many bands do full album sets when these events occur, which, of course, would include “Turpentine”. There is a good chance this happens, especially since this album represents the band reuniting.
In fact, when it comes to what makes “Turpentine” special, perhapsit’s because it truly shows the band back together as one. This is due to the song belonging to co-lead singer Tom DeLonge. DeLonge had been away for years, including two albums completed without him, so this marked a significant return of his voice to the band.
Whether the song ends up back on a Blink-182 setlist remains to be seen. The positive aspect is that the song was played live in the first place. There are some tunes that the band may never perform, so it’s a victory that this received special distinction. However, no fan will complain ifBlink-182 brings “Turpentine” back, as it’s phenomenal.
