Earlier this year, it was confirmed thatinFamousandSly CooperdeveloperSucker Punch Productionswas working on abrand new IPfor the PlayStation 4. We haven’t heard much about the project since then, but now there’s official word from Sony that the studio is making good forward progress.

ManySucker Punchfans were concerned about the status of the project, given that there was no sign of it at E3 2017 earlier this month. However, PlayStation Worldwide Studios chief Shuhei Yoshida was on hand to confirm that the game hasn’t been cancelled.

Sony Infamous Series

In fact, Yoshida said that he had played the game personally many times, which might suggest that it’s in an advanced stage of development. It’s been three years since Sucker Punch launchedinFamous: First Lightfor the PlayStation 4, so it seems reasonable to assume that plenty of work has already gone into the studio’s next project.

Last year, rumors circulatedthat Sucker Punch might be working on Sony’sSpider-Mangame, back when that title was yet to be officially announced. Of course, we now know that Insomniac was entrusted with the superhero license, which only prompts more questions about what this unannounced IP will be.

While Sony has previously stated that it hasno plans to retire theinFamousfranchise, the word is that Sucker Punch’s next game will be the start of something new. Previously, we’ve seen the studio tackle the platformer genre, as well as a more conventional open-world action game, so it will certainly be interesting to see what’s next.

Yoshida was keen to confirm that this project is bubbling away nicely, but he fell short of offering up details of when it might be unveiled to the public. That being said, the PlayStation Experience 2017 fan convention, scheduled for December, might be the best bet at this point.
