Jeremy Renner’s latestHawkeyeseason 2 comments about his hopes for the potential next chapter in Clint Barton’sMCUstory feel like a real game-changer for the franchise. Withthe original MCU Avengersdown to lower numbers than before, the stories of the remaining members are all the more crucial for the franchise.
However, they’re also stories that haven’t been extensively utilized. While the Captain America mantle lives on thanks to Sam Wilson and his own recent2025 MCU movie, other figures have gotten less of the spotlight. Promisingly, Jeremy Renner’s update on hisHawkeyeseason 2 hopes suggest Clint Barton is set to get some more screentime soon.
Jeremy Renner’s Comments On Hawkeye Season 2 Make The Series Feel Way More Likely Now
In an interview withVarietypublished August 05, 2025,Jeremy Renner revealed he was hopeful aboutHawkeyeseason 2coming to fruition. Discussing his love of the MCU’s world, his castmates, and of playing Clint Barton, Renner stated:
“I’m sure we’ll end up doing Season 2 [of ‘Hawkeye’], and do other things. And I’m happy to do it. My body’s getting ready for something like that. I don’t know if anybody wants to see me in tights, but my body will look good in the tights.”
WithHawkeyeseason 1 having released in 2021 - and not having been followed up on in the years that have followed - it was unclear whetherHawkeyeseason 2 was going to come to fruition. Indeed, it has seemed unclear if Clint Barton would return at all, since the direction the MCU has taken doesn’t require a follow-up to his story.

AfterHawkeyeseason 1, it did seem possible for Kate Bishop to take over Barton’s role as Hawkeye, and for Barton to remain off-screen thanks to this exchanging of roles. This trajectory appeared particularly possible given a Young Avengers project seemed to be being more actively built towards with the likes ofThe Marvels' ending.
However, continuing forward without one of the original Avengers does seem like it would be a waste, making the Variety statement a welcome update. This is especially true given Jeremy Renner’s previous comments about whyHawkeyeseason 2 might not be possible were more about circumstances than the actor himself not wanting to return.
Why Hawkeye Season 2 Didn’t Seem Set To Happen Until Now
One of the last updates about the prospects ofHawkeyeseason 2 also came from Jeremy Renner, and previously suggested a second chapter to the show might not be on the cards. In a May 2025 interview with theHigh Performance podcast, Renner explained:
“They asked me to do season 2, and they offered me half the money… I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount’.”
It’s worth noting these comments also saw the Hawkeye actor state “we’ll see” about whether the show would be possible or whether his return would be on the table. However,these comments suggested thatHawkeyeseason 2 wasn’t set to come to fruition, and indeed might never given the disagreement about the financial side of things.
With an increased focus on follow-ups to pre-existing projects becoming a part of the MCU’s approach in the years sinceHawkeyeseason 1, though, it would make sense for this to potentially be renegotiated. Hawkeye being an original Avenger means there’s a lot of weight to continuing his series, especially given the first chapter’s positive reviews.
Similarly, if plans emerge to have Hawkeye in something likeAvengers: DoomsdayorAvengers: Secret Wars, the circumstances aroundHawkeyeseason 2 could be very different. If there’s a world-threatening crisis, it would make a lot of sense for Barton to find himself once again in the mix, which would let season 2 explore the aftermath for him and Bishop.
Hawkeye Season 2 Would Be Great For The MCU
Hawkeyeseason 1’s 92% Tomatometer and 88% Popcornmeter onRotten Tomatoesto some degree speak for themselves when it comes to the prospect of a second season. With Clint Barton having gotten very little focal screentime in the MCU - and yet having had so much happen in his life - the show was a way to expand on some underutilized stories.
Hawkeyewas also arguably one of the MCU shows that provided the most connective tissue for the franchise in recent history. Not only did season 1 explore the aftermath of the Snap andAvengers: Endgamein a way that proved both comedic and heartwrenching in equal turns, it also set up a lot for the future of the franchise.
Kingpin’s return was integral toHawkeye, and Kate Bishop’s blossoming superhero career was also given its own fair share of screentime. Balancing these major setups alongside looks back at the past like the scenes showing howThe Avengerswas turned into an in-universe MCU musical seem challenging to pull off side-by-side, and yet this is done truly effectively.
Hawkeyeseason 2 is promising just in terms of following up on Clint and Kate’s stories, but season 1’s highlights also show it is capable of being much more. As such, Renner’s latest comments about just how possible the show returning could be feel like they hold serious promise for what could be a solid next chapter for the MCU.
