FromSoftware’s roguelite spin-offElden Ring Nightreignhas predictably been divisive since its release, but a recent petition is highlighting a missing feature that seems to be universally asked for.Nightreignis designed to be played in teams of three, but the studio doesn’t have the most stellar track record when it comes to network functionality, though FromSoftware is already making strides with the announcement of aduos mode and upcoming DLC.
Nightreignstill suffers from a lack of crossplay, though, which has specifically been called out by a petition onChange.org.The petition urges FromSoftware to add cross-platform play and voice chat toElden Ring Nightreignin an update, saying their exclusion from the release version puts the title well below modern gaming standards. Only started yesterday, June 17, the petition is already approaching 900 signatures. Signees are hoping to convince FromSoftware to add crossplay functionality between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Why Elden Ring Nightreign Players Want Crossplay
Matchmaking Is Already Limiting
The petition comes from a PlayStation user who is frustrated that they’re unable to play with their friends on other platforms. They suggest that crossplay be implemented with an opt-in toggle in the game’s settings; that way, it’s not forced upon players who don’t want to participate. The petition also campaigns for voice chat to be added: “Nightreign would also benefit significantly with voice chat features.“Nightreigncurrently does not let you use voice chat with your teammates, with the only forms of communication being a rudimentary ping system and gestures.
One petition supporter is quite scathing in their comment, writing,“Having an entirely multiplayer game on multiple platforms and NOT having crossplay is just insulting in 2025.“They go on to refer to crossplay as a “relatively basic feature,” and suggest that FromSoftware is jeopardizing potential profits by excluding it. Even within the specific platforms,Nightreignmatchmaking is partitioned. Each Nightlord has its own queue, and players hoping to attempt aRemembrance Questcan’t be matched with others doing the same, since the game only allows one Remembrance Quest per team at a time.

Nightreign Would Be A Lot Better With Crossplay
Queue Times Would Plummet
Despite the hideous, AI-generated slop of an image used in the petition, it makes some salient points. As a multiplayer-first title,Nightreignis propped up entirely by its playerbase, and limiting the pool of matchmaking possibilities actively harms the longevity of the game. There are already instances where you might wait a few minutes to fill a team with just three players for a specific boss, and it’s only going to get worse as the game ages and players move on. Adding crossplay would effectively triple the matchmaking pool for any given platform.
A more sophisticated ping system would certainly help.
It is quite baffling that FromSoftware didn’t opt to include crossplay in a multiplayer game released in 2025; it’s long past becoming the industry standard. I’m less conviced thatNightreignneeds voice chat. A more sophisticated ping system would certainly help, butthe chance to abuse skyrockets when voice chat is thrown into the mix. It’s a difficult game, and a teammate yelling at you for any reason would make it far less appealing.
There are alreadyunspoken rules for playingNightreignonlinewith randoms, which closely adheres to the original vision behind FromSoftware’s multiplayer in the likes ofDark SoulsandElden Ring.Elden Ring Nightreignis an oddity, though, and players clearly feel very strongly about its lack of crossplay.
