Larcenauts, a new VR title in the hero shooter genre, has just been announced. The reveal trailer showcases plenty of gameplay action, introducing players to the game’s varied environments and cast of diverse characters.
The newly announced title comes from developer Impulse Gear, the creators behindPSVR titleFarpoint. The 2017 title was met with fairly positive reviews, with critics praising the use of Sony’s then-new Aim Controller, while criticizing the game’s lack of a meaningful and cohesive narrative.

A roughly two-minute long trailer posted to the officialOculusYouTube channel introduces players to the variousLarcenautsspecialists. The first character introduced is Calima, a speedy infiltrator who displays a dash ability before coming under fire. She’s covered by Evander, a hunter who appears to be the game’s sharpshooter. Calima is then defeated by ARC-L6, a plasma tech-wielding commando. As the trailer progresses, more specialists are introduced, including engineer Bosun, plague mask-wearing medic Chi, as well as guardian robot and defense specialist Thal. Explosives expert Salters and hulking brawler Vod round out the characters, which are all vying to heist a stolen “intel” ball.
The trailer also shows viewers some ofLarcenauts' levels, of which there are currently four in total. Comments indicate that gamers like what they see so far, with many comparing it to the likes ofOverwatchorApex Legendsin VR. While the former’s recent history has been tumultuous, withOverwatch 2’s director leaving,Apexis as successful as ever, reachinga new concurrent player recordof nearly a quarter million players on Steam with its latest Season launch. With the introduction ofLarcenauts, it should be interesting to see if the creators behind non-VR titles will be inspired to make something similar.
