YouTube has suddenly banned Calvin Lee Vail, better known as LeafyIsHere or simply Leafy, from its site. Leafy’sYouTubechannel ban comes not long after the controversial creator uploaded a series of videos about popular Twitch streamer and fellow content creator Pokimane, though it’s not entirely clear if those videos are the reason for the ban.
According to esports insider Rod Breslau, Leafy was banned from YouTube because his channel had “multiple or severe violations of YouTube’s policy prohibiting content designed to harass, bully, or threaten.” In the early morning hours of August 22, Leafy publicly reached out to YouTube on Twitter to see if there was anything that he could do to get his channel reinstated or if the company would release a statement on the matter.Pokimanehas also tweeted about Leafy’s ban, stating that she had nothing to do with it.

It’s quite possible that YouTube took Leafy’s past videos into account when it decided to permanently ban him, as well as the more recent Pokimane videos. However, until YouTube provides more specific information on the Leafy ban and what exactly went into that decision, all fans can do is speculate.
Since Leafy was banned from YouTube, he has been active on social media, tweeting about the situation on and alluding to other YouTube creators. Notably, he tweeted out “pewdiepie is racist,” though it’s unclear if that was in response to his YouTube channel being banned or if it was just a random thing he decided to say to further stir the pot. The implication seems to be that YouTube is being hypocritical for supporting acontroversial figure like PewDiePieand banning Leafy, but again, that’s just speculation at this time.
It remains to be seen what will happen next. It’s unlikely that YouTube will reinstate Leafy’s channel, but it’s not an impossibility. It’s also possible that Leafy will simply create a newYouTube channelor stop making videos entirely.
