As out of the blue as this new development may seem, creatives insisted thatLokiseason 2’s partnership with McDonald’s was all with good intentions. “I was worried that McDonald’s would think we wanted to do something ironic or make fun of them,” executive producer Kevin Wright toldFast Company. “But we were selling an earnest story, a love letter to nostalgia through a character’s eyes who will see all of the novelty and joy of it.”
As Wright says, Sylvie’s choice to work at McDonald’s was not a cavalier decision. He further described where the variant’s mindset would be.Sylvie’s story inLokishowed her being ripped out of her timeline at a young age, so she never had a childhood. She had been a time fugitive for as long as she could remember, and the most recognizable fast food chain in the world would be a place of comfort. There, she could see happy families and children at play.
As for McDonald’s, they were more than happy to indulge in this partnership. Marvel already had a standing agreement with the chain, and they were intrigued at the prospect of melding the strange world ofLokiwith their brand. Marketing officer Morgan Flatley intimated that the Marvel series’s fanbase would blend well with McDonald’s. Flatley was particularly open to the idea of Sylvie finding comfort in familiarity. Nostalgia is a big part of the brand, and such a partnership would make sense.
Of course, it doesn’t appear that Sylvie’s story will be smooth sailing for long. After dispensing with theKang the Conquerer variant, Loki will most likely come looking for Sylvie, if promotional material is to be believed. The season 2 trailer indicated that he is having an issue with time slippage, and there would be no individual better at understanding the problem than a person who spent her entire life hiding in the timelines. This, of course, will offer some awkward moments. Before betraying Loki, Sylvie and the god of mischief shared a kiss that was confusing for everyone involved. Feelings are sure to be a big problem whenLokiseason 2 premieres.
Lokiseason 2 will premiere on Disney Plus on June 03, 2025.
