Dungeons & Dragonsnow has a complete gunslinger class, and you can play it now viaD&D Beyond. AlthoughDnDhas long allowed for the use of firearms, it’s never really been designed around them. Guns are a little clunky, especially when you get into the reload mechanic, it’s not an avenue that’s always worth exploring. Players have long since tried to make their own gunslinger classes, either viacreative use of certain fighter subclassesorbringing in homebrew content. But that may change with the release of a new expansion.
The Gunslinger Class: Valda’s Spire of Secrets is a new expansion by Mage Hand Press, a third-party producer ofDnDcontent. With six subclasses, nine spells, three feats, and much more, the expansion gives you the full framework you need to develop and play a gun-toting cowboy - no more reverse engineering from the fighter class. It’s fully integrated into theD&D Beyondvirtual tabletop platform, and you can buy it via the official store.

D&D’s New Gunslinger Sourcebook Is Now Available On D&D Beyond
Everything In The Gunslinger Class Expansion
The gunslinger class, as outlined in the new sourcebook, is as complete as any baseDnDclass, with tons of options for further customization. There are six subclasses, beginning with the Spellslinger, which allows you to load your gun with spells of varying effects. Deadeye is the resident sniper class, where you focus on delivering devastating critical hits at a long distance. Secret Agent blends sharpshooting with stealth, allowing you to sneak around and sabotage your enemies before going in for the kill. White Hat is the archetypical heroic cowboy class, with a penchant for law and order and some unique defensive abilities.
There’s also the High Roller subclass, which is unique in that it allows you toplay a game of dice-based deception with the DM- if you win, you’ll get additional bonuses. And last but certainly not least, there’s the Trick Shot subclass, which allows you to hit impossible targets by curving the trajectory of your shots and hitting perfect ricochets.

No matter which subclass you choose, though, you’ll gain access to a new character resource, called Risk Dice, that you can roll in high-pressure scenarios to gain an extra advantage. All gunslingers also have access to unique maneuvers that’ll allow them to line up their targets and set up perfect shots. Three new feats will allow you to power up your gunslinger characters even further, while nine new spells will help you shoot better, faster, and more accurately by turning your bullets into cannonballs, reloading your gun on the fly, and jamming other character’s weapons before they can even shoot.
Our Take: This Is D&D’s Most Complete Cowboy Class Yet
Homebrew Can’t Compare
The gunslinger expansion sounds fun, sure, and there’s nothing like playing a cowbow inDnD. But what’s really impressive about it is just how complete it is. Previous player-made solutions were mostly limited to a single subclass, but this one’s got lots of options, so you can tweak the class to be whatever you want to play. It represents a massive expansion toDungeons & Dragonsin a small package, and I can’t wait to see the directions players choose to take it in.
