After rumors swirled of her being involved with the film, it’s now been revealed Margot Robbie is indeed in talks for Tim Burton’sAttack of the Fifty Foot Woman. Burton has enjoyed a steady resurgence over the past few years, beginning with his work directing and producingWednesdayseason 1, followed by finally gettingBeetlejuice Beetlejuiceoff the ground.
Before the latter film became a critical and commercial hit, it was revealed that Burton was teaming withGone Girlauthor Gillian Flynn to develop theAttack of the Fifty Foot Womanremake at Warner Bros. However, this past December saw the director clarify it was not a sure thing, saying it’ll be true when he’s on the movie’s set.

Now, perVariety,Robbie is in “early conversations” to join Burton’s remake of the sci-fi cult classic. At the time of writing, no deal has been closed for theBarbiestar to be involved, though reports indicate that should the deal go through, she will both star in and produce the film through her LuckyChap banner with partners Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara.
What This Means For The Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman Remake
Though Robbie entering talks is a big boon for the movie’s chances of getting off the ground, there are still a few things to be taken care of beforeAttack of the Fifty Foot Woman’s remakeis filmed. For starters, Flynn is reported to have exited due to scheduling conflicts, only submitting a first draft of the screenplay, thus requiring a new screenwriter.
Additionally, Burton does have the already greenlitWednesdayseason 3 to focus on, particularly as showrunners Mike Millar and Alfred Gough have confirmed the writers room is already underway. There are also varying reports ofBeetlejuice 3moving ahead, though the director recently indicated not being involved in those discussions at Warner Bros.

Robbie herself also has a dance card that is rapidly filling up. She recently wrapped up filming on Emerald Fennell’sWuthering Heightsadaptation, butBarbie 2is also reportedly in early development. Meanwhile,thelong-gestatingOcean’s 11prequeljust took a big step forward hiringTwisters' Lee Isaac Chung to direct.
The latter two projects, in particular, are ones that could impact her availability for theAttack of the Fifty Foot Womanremake, though with all three set at Warner Bros., the studio may try and help facilitate a smooth schedule. Robbie’s role in theOcean’sprequel is also currently unclear from whenshe and Ryan Gosling were the first cast in the film.

Our Take On Robbie Joining Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman
Scheduling hurdles aside, the prospect of Robbie starring and producing theAttack of the Fifty Foot Womanremake is actually a very encouraging sign for the film. It’s likely she’ll want to wait until seeing a final draft of the script, but the fact she has enough confidence to both produce and lead points to Flynn’s first draft being great.
But while they are very different kinds of films, it’s actuallyRobbie’s work inBarbiethat gives me a lot of excitement for her to leadAttack of the Fifty Foot Woman. In what could’ve been one-note, Robbie found the appropriate depths for the doll-based character, and it’d be great to see her do the same for the cult classic sci-fi character.
