Not too long ago, it was revealed that sales ofMario Kart 8Deluxehelped make the Nintendo franchise as a wholethe best-selling racing game series of all-time in America, with the latest sequel providing fans with a near-perfect representation of everything that makes the brand enjoyable. Of course, no matter what the product, there’s always room for improvement, as the modder and Twitter user SmashingRenders realized that the Wii U version of game stands to be even better if Kirby were a playable character, so he decided to add everyone’s favorite pink puffball in as a racer in the place of Koopa Troopa.

As seen below in the video from Reyes Rosas' YouTube channel, Kirby most definitely holds his own on the race track inMario Kart 8, as he overtakes opponents with ease on the Sweet Sweet Canyon track, ultimately placing 3rd overall in the contest. Plus, interestingly enough, instead of using one of the game’s standard vehicles, the mod also adds a unique automobile that pays homage to theKirbyseries, with the character driving a yellow star kart.

SinceMario Kart 8offers little in the way of Nintendo icons from series beyond theSuper Mariofranchise, save for the likes of Link fromThe Legend of Zelda, theSplatoonInklings, and characters fromAnimal Crossing, Kirby would be a great addition to the roster to add a bit more flair and crossover appeal to the game. Of course, the Big N could eventually add Kirby to the title’sDeluxeedition for Nintendo Switch as DLC, which would certainly delight plenty of fans in the process.

For now, though, Kirby is only available inMario Kart 8by way of an unofficial mod thanks to the skills of SmashingRenders, which can be acquiredright here. Perhaps with subsequent sequels, Nintendo will start branching out to even more of its other IPs and begin to makeMario Kartmore likeSuper Smash Bros.by incorporating an even larger amount of characters from the entire Nintendo universe.

Mario Kart 8is available for Wii U, whileMario Kart 8 Deluxeis out now for Nintendo Switch.
