A version ofX-Men’sBeast with white fur, as depicted on the cover ofAge of Revelation#0, immediately evokes the memory of “Here Comes Tomorrow,” the swan song arc fromGrant Morrison’s transformativeNew X-Menrun, itself set in a dystopian possible future. In that story, Beast inadvertently became thehost of the villain Sublime.

While there have been several instances inX-Menhistory where Beast has gone bad, this one is the most burned into fans' minds. Part of that stems from a simple, yet highly effective tweak to the character’s design: turning his trademark blue fur white. This was a significantdeparture from the character’s familiar look, one that the franchise is now repeating in another dark future.
