Knull Made His Live-Action Debut in Venom: The Last Dance
A milestone issue releasing almost a year after Knull’s underwhelming live-action debut inVenom: The Last Dance,Venom #250, written by currentAll-New Venomscribe Al Ewing and illustrated by Terry Dodson, promises to bring Knull back into the fold in a big way. Last seen during the events ofKing in Blackclashing with Eddie Brock’s Venom as well as the rest of the heroes of the Marvel Universe before supposedly being annihilated at the center of the sun, this time around,Knull will be pitted againstMary Jane Watson’s all-new Venomas Eddie is currently bonded with Carnage.
Acting as a glorified cameo inVenom: The Last Dance, Knull, played via motion-capture by Andy Serkis, was hyped as the ultimate Venom villain and sought to acquire a Codex, which would allow him to escape from his cosmic prison.Barely featured in the film to the point that the Knull character was almost always shown draped in shadowdoing little other than sitting on a throne, giving his Xenophages orders, and hanging his head in a menacing way, Knull deserves redemption in the medium he originated in, givingVenom #250an opportunity tobring Knull back with a vengeance.
Knull Deserved Better in Venom: The Last Dance and Now His Marvel Comics Return Can Fix That
Needing to make a better impression as a villain than what was seen onscreen inVenom: The Last Dance, Knullalsohas to make amends in the eyes of comic fans, asKnull’s portrayal by the end oftheKing in Blackstorydidn’t always live up to the character’s dark potential. A terrifying being who struck fear into Marvel’s heroes well before he ever appeared in the flesh, the original King in Black was undoubtedly a powerful enemy, but by the time of his demise, had devolved into a by-the-numbers foe whose character development left something to be desired.
Unfortunately,in both the comic and film space, Knull was built up only to fall short of his full potential, making the character’s mysterious rebirth all the more intriguing to follow. Details are scarce about how Knull will make his official return to the page along as well as what he has in store for the Marvel Universe now that Eddie Brock isno longer theKing in Black, so it can only be assumed that Knull will be even more prepared than he was before, ensuring that thisVenom-related villain’s return will be well worth the wait come October.
